A former MasterChef contestant has shared a devastating loss after her “bestest friend” died following a two-year battle with bowel cancer.

Justine Schofield, who now has her own show called Everyday Gourmet, took to Instagram to pay tribute to her friend Beth “Betty” Tundehope, who passed away on February 24 at the age of 38.

“I will love you forever my beautiful Betty. You were the bestest friend a gal could have,” Justine wrote.

“I will never forget you. Rest in peace.”

She urged everyone, as were Beth’s wishes, to donate money to Bowel Cancer Australia.

Alongside her heartbroken words, Justine posted a series of images such as the pair carving a Christmas ham together, one celebrating Betty’s birthday and one where Beth cradled Justine’s baby bump.

Fellow social media users shared their condolences with Justine.

Poh Ling Yeow, who also appeared on MasterChef, said: “Oh Jussy. Im so sorry. Big big hugs.”

Meanwhile Sunrise weather presenter Sam Mac, who was photographed with Justine and Beth at a restaurant event in 2014, said: “I’m so sorry to hear this Juzzy. Sending big love.”

Stylist Donny Galella wrote: “Thinking of you.”

Beth was diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer in 2022, changing her life in an instant.

In September 2023, Beth’s sister Helen took to fundraising group MyCause in order to raise money so Beth could go to the Hope4Cancer Institute in Mexico.

“Recently, Beth underwent major surgery to remove tumours and several affected organs, marking another brave step in her fight against this relentless disease,” Helen said.

“For anyone fortunate enough to know Beth, you’d agree that she’s more than just a sister; she’s the best mother to Belle, the most loving daughter, and an amazing friend to all who cross her path.

“My family and I are determined to explore every possible avenue for her recovery. That’s why we’re reaching out to you today. We are raising funds to support Beth’s journey to go to the Hope4Cancer Institute in Mexico in conjunction with conventional medicine.”
