Gross Crocs cleaning trend has people torn

"Mate that is rank!" But is there method to their madness?

Clean Crocs? Sure. The same size? Not so much.

Anyone who loves their Crocs knows that they can get more than a little dirty - the only con that comes with them being so versatile.

However, one strategy for cleaning has gone viral for all the wrong reasons, and Crocs has set the record straight.

“They’re actually spotless!”

Aussie content creator Anthony Di Paolo has taken to Instagram showing how he cleans his Crocs - in the dishwasher.

In the video, he pops them in with all the dirty dishes, before removing them to find that they’re as clean as new - albeit a little smaller.

“They’re actually spotless,” he said.

“They shrunk a little bit. Lucky they were a little too roomy, so now they fit me perfectly. But, they’ve shrunk.”

“Mate that is rank!”

Commenters on the video, which now has close to one million views, were mortified to say the least.

“Not with other dishes,” said one person.

“With all the dishes?! Who does that? This why you can't eat at anyone's house,” another agreed.

“Mate that is rank,” said a third.

Some even accused Anthony of posting rage bait. But, he’s not the only one who’s done it, with all kinds of people posting the hack across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.

Cookbook author Babs Costello posted the hack to her 4.2 million TikTok followers back in 2021 - though she did make sure there were no other dishes at the time.

Maybe you shouldn’t try this one…

While Crocs haven't commented on the viral trend, if you were planning on trying it, maybe think twice.

According to the Crocs website, they recommend two methods for cleaning your Crocs - hand washing, or putting them on a delicate cycle in the washing machine with gentle laundry detergent.

So, if you have to try something more intense, maybe put them in with your clothes instead of your dishes.
