Plain croissants: the original and best?
Move over cruffins, cronuts, and crookies
The cookie croissant has been a huge trend of 2024 – with cookie dough stuffed inside and spread on top of croissants. As a self-proclaimed skeptic, I wasn’t taken in by this inventive twist on a timeless classic. Same went for the cruffin and cronut trends of the past.
But now, there’s a new kid in town.. and I’m reluctantly enchanted.
Meet the apple crumble dessert croissant
Imagine the flaky, buttery goodness of a croissant combined with the comforting flavours of apple crumble and the decadence of custard, all in one delightful pastry. It’s a game-changer that has won over even the staunchest traditionalists. Moi!
When I fed my family this dessert, they were blown away. Little did they know, it’s a simple recipe that requires just a few store-bought items. The magic lies in the unique combination of ingredients, with the custard adding an irresistible ooze and creaminess to every bite.
Another dessert we’ve hacked…
The best ever apple dessert
Now we’re deep in winter, it would have been un-Australian not to have enjoyed the comforting embrace of a hearty dessert or five… and for me, apples often steal the spotlight. The cute little tree fruits warm our hearts and tummies alike, and in this case, they transform desserts into guilt-free indulgences. Winning!
From classic pies to innovative creations, the versatility of the mighty apple knows no bounds. And with this new trend in town, apples are taking the humble croissant to delicious new heights too.
How to make apple crumble croissants
Let’s get baking! You’ll need some super simple store bought items and baking basics. You’ll start by mixing together diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and a sprinkle of almond meal in one bowl, and stirring some custard with a bit more almond meal in another. Grab some puff pastry and cut it into triangles and spoon some custard mixture and apple filling onto each triangle, then roll ’em up into cute little croissants. Once they’re ready, sprinkle some delicious crumble topping over the croissants and get them in the oven.
Get ready to enjoy the heavenly aroma of apple crumble croissants filling your kitchen. Just don’t regret your impatience as I did, after diving in too quickly and burning the roof of my mouth.
On second thought, it was a risk worth taking for such a divine indulgence. And I’ll be back for more before winter is over.
