Aldi has dropped three new chip flavours inspired by iconic UK tastes.
The budget-friendly German supermarket chain has dropped Smith’s Prawn Cocktail, Bangers & Mash and Worcestershire Sauce as part of the British Bites Special Buys collection.
The Special Buys collection arrived into stores on June 7, and, like all Special Buys, is only available for a limited time only.
It’s not the first time the chips have been part of the Aldi range but customers are as excited as ever for them.
Food influencer @nectoriouspapi1 took to TikTok to show off the UK inspired flavours, which have a price tag of $3.29.
Many social media users were keen to try one specific flavour that was part of the range – Prawn Cocktail.
“The way my jaw dropped when you said prawn cocktail! I miss lays prawn cocktail so muchhh,” one social media user commented on the food influencer’s video.
Another user commented: “I loved the UK brand prawn cocktail chips so maybe have to get some of these.”
One social media user added: “OMG Prawn Cocktail. I used to love that. last I tried that was five years ago.”
But, as with all flavours based on other food, not everyone agreed the chips accurately matched the flavour palette Smith’s was aiming for.
“I had the bangers and mash ones today, they are inaccurately flavoured,” one social media user said.
“I’ve had multiple limited edition flavours and they always miss the mark.”
An Aldi spokesperson confirmed the chips’ arrival into stores around the country.
“ALDI’s limited-time only British Bites Special Buys, including Smith’s crinkle cut chips in prawn cocktail, bangers and mash, and Worcestershire sauce flavours, are a returning favourite for ALDI customers,” the spokesperson told news.com.au.
“We’re excited to bring back these delicious British treats and are sure that expats down under will love getting their hands on a little slice of home at prices so low you’d think they were in Pounds.”
