Almost two years after a beloved confectionary item was completely discontinued in Australia, shoppers have spotted it on Woolworths shelves.

Mars Wrigley axed the popular Starburst brand in June 2022, blaming continued supply chain issues for the “difficult decision”, caused by the fact the products had to be imported from Europe.

The news sparked widespread disappointment among fans at the time, with many claiming the lollies were “the best”.

But now a cult product from the Starburst range has made an unexpected return, after Woolies added the brand’s “Fruit Chews” to its international foods aisle, but stock is limited.

Woolworths confirms axed item back on Aussie shelves

“We know some customers have missed having their favourite Starburst Fruit Chews,” a spokesperson told news.com.au.

“That’s why for a limited time we’re bringing in the UK manufactured version, customers should check online to see availability in their local store.”

Melbourne food blogger @angeeats was first to notice the retailer had the chewy sweets back on shelves, explaining reaction to his video has been incredibly positive, and proves Australians “want Starburst back”.

“So many people were excited by the news Starburst were back after I shared it on TikTok,” he told news.com.au.

“Hopefully Mars Wrigley will see the huge success of this limited stock in Woolworths and will bring them back.

“Aussies want these products in stock.”

Ange’s initial video, which revealed the popular product was “back”, has clocked up almost 100,000 views in the 24 hours since it was shared, leading many to plead for Starburst to return permanently.

“The bag includes all the Starburst Original Candy fruit flavours you love: Apple, Orange, Blackcurrent, Strawberry, Lime, Lemon,” he explained.

While many were delighted, others stressed they wanted other Starburst products to return, including the “Snakes” and the jelly “Babies”.

“All we want are the snakes and the babies,” one said.

“These are great, but the snakes were the most elite lolly,” another agreed.

As one declared: “Just bring back all of Starburst.”

“No way, I’ll be running to Woolies tonight,” posted one.

“OMGGGGG, best news,” stated another.

Despite the delight among Aussies, Mars Wrigley has confirmed there are no plans to bring the popular brand back to Australia.

“Mars Wrigley made the decision to cease importing Starburst from Europe in June 2022,” the spokesperson told news.com.au.

“Mars is committed to manufacturing in Australia and has been proudly doing so in Ballarat since 1979 and Asquith since 1958.

“We continue to invest in the brands and products we make locally in Australia for Australians including M&Ms, Maltesers, Skittles, Snickers, Extra and Eclipse.”
