An Aldi freezer item that some claim is the best thing the retailer has ever stocked is so popular, shoppers didn’t want its existence getting out.

When Aldi customers get hooked on something, they really let it be known.

And this time it’s over a bag of $3 instant mashed potatoes.

Facebook has become awash with posts about the cheap freezer item with some shoppers going as far as to say it’s the best thing the German retailer has ever stocked.

It’s a big call, but according to them, it’s a “game-changer” and tastes “just like the real thing”.

One thing customers love about the item, which claims not to have no artificial colours or flavours and preservatives, is the various ways you can cook with it.

One woman uploaded a snap of the 1kg Season’s Pride potato bag to a popular Aldi group simply describing it as a “winner” alongside a tick emoji.

“Absolute game changer,” one shopper wrote.

“This stuff is the best,” said another, while a third said she uses it to make cottage pie.

“They save heaps of time and don’t taste artificial at all,” the woman continued.

“I just add a bit of butter. It’s so quick and easy when I just need to add a bit more to the plate or if I’m time poor,” another shopper added.

One Facebook user joked Aldi fans “kept this one a secret”.

“Well we all know now. Looks like we should all throw an extra bag in on our next essential shopping trip.”

Others were impressed by the 1kg bag’s cheap price tag of “just $3”.

“Just as good as other brands and you get more for your money,” one user pointed out.

An Aldi spokesperson told news.com.au the item is only available for a limited time, but hinted that could change.

“We definitely take our customers’ feedback into consideration when it comes to bringing their favourite products back to shelves,” the spokesperson said.

“We are happy to hear customers are enjoying Seasons Pride Frozen Mashed Potato, we know shoppers enjoy meals that are quick and easy to prepare.

“We can’t think of anything more comforting than some delicious, creamy mashed potato as the perfect side to any meal.”

It’s not the first time Aldi fans have lost it over a potato product.

Earlier this month, the German retailer sparked a huge frenzy over its easy-to-make snack – none other than the humble Aussie pie.

But not just any pie: Elsmbury’s Angus Beef Potato Pie which is essentially a cottage pie of Angus beef topped with plenty of creamy mashed potato.

One Aldi shopper shared a TikTok video salivating over the $4.99 winter food, and she wasn’t the only one to declare “how good” it tasted.

“They are the best. Regular on my shopping list,” one person commented.

“Yes they’re awesome,” said another, while a third added: “I’ve tried them and they’re yummy.”

Part of the reason for its popularity is that it takes the hassle out of preparing the winter favourite – and in this case, it involves simply taking it out of the packaging and just whacking it in the oven for 40 minutes.

Others were extra excited to hear the pies were made in Australia and were keen to give it a go for that reason.

Aldi fans have also been raving about the German retailer’s pre-packaged potato bake from Market Fare which retails for the same price at $4.99.
