TikToker and certified Young Person, Lukas Battle’s (@lukasbattle) introduced the trend which has taken off like wildfire.

A woefully relatable example the creator set out “Sorry, can’t go out to dinner. I’ve got $7 a day to live on.” It really got people going.

The trend is liberating people online (and IRL) to challenge consumerism and really own their financial constraints.

The quiet luxury trend of 2023 (clean simple lines, designer labels hidden, Gwyneth Paltrow in general) has proven to be endlessly chic, yet unattainable and with the state of the world as it is, people are getting on board to shout about their anti-luxury lifestyles.

Commenters on TikTok were quick to embrace Battle’s sentiments, chiming in with quips like: “Does loud budgeting include loud couponing?? Because I could really get down with that.”

Another said of the trend, “This is so recession core” followed by a love heart smile emoji. Take us to the morgue.
