Boxing Day sales kicked off across Australia today.

Viral videos on Instagram and TikTok revealed it was a stampede of epic proportions at DFO Sydney and Harbour Town on the Gold Coast and it’s sparked a frenzy of reactions online.

Lines stretched as far as the eye can see, and shoppers were patiently waiting their turn to snag a bargain. But with queues this long, are the deals really worth the wait?

These videos have ignited outrage in the comments section. Is this peak Aussie bargain-hunting spirit, or have we officially lost the plot?

It seems no amount of incentive could persuade some people to participate.

“You couldn’t pay me to go here,” one person wrote.

And, savvy shoppers are calling out the “fake” deals.

“It was $599, now 50% off $299. But really it hasn’t even dropped 1 dollar,” one quipped.

Others were quick to jump on the Boxing Day sales hate train: “Zero happens on Boxing Day that couldn’t wait till the 27th. That’s just foul.”

Some are even questioning if Boxing Day sales are even worth it anymore, with Black Friday seemingly stealing the spotlight.

“Boxing Day sales don’t exist anymore,” a punter wrote.

Another was quick to point out the irony of the situation: “Yup interest rates definitely too low, perhaps a little retail therapy helps ease the financial pain?

There is a “cost of living crisis”, and perhaps the crowds are a sign that people are desperate for a bargain.
