In taupe embroidered tulle and a white veil, the actress was wed above the canals of Venice.

You might remember last October when Dune: Part Two and The Queen's Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy was spotted on a balcony, above the canals of Venice, when she and musician Malcolm McRae tied the knot. Earlier this morning, the actress revealed that April Fool's was, in fact, their second anniversary, and marked the milestone by sharing a series of never-before-seen photographs from the ceremony, including a closer look at her custom Dior gown—and her highly unconventional wedding cakes.

“Two years ago, on April Fools, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans,” Taylor-Joy wrote on Instagram. “The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever. Happy second ( first ) anniversary my love…you’re the coolest. N.B yes, those are anatomically correct heart cakes. Yes, I am the vampire Lestat.”

Though Taylor-Joy and McRae were officially wed at an intimate courthouse ceremony in 2022—because true love waits for no one, or at least, no busy production schedule—but the second affair saw them celebrate their union in Venetian style. With a guest list of over 150 friends and family—including Cara Delevingne, Julia Garner, Aimee Carrero, Keleigh and Miles Teller, and Nicholas Hoult—the event was held at one of the most luxurious palazzos in the city. Everything from the attendees to the masquerade pre-party the night before to the illustrious venue dazzled and delighted—but nothing so much as the bride's ethereal, custom Dior wedding gown.

Accoutred in taupe tulle and a long, white veil, Taylor-Joy took to the balcony before the wedding to take a breath and look over the canals, giving the world a more than warmly received look at her spectacular gown.

A simple design, the dress featured thin straps and a square neckline with an A-line skirt. Beyond the sweeping veil, the bride evidently wished to lean away from traditional bridal shades, opting instead for a dreamy beige that was brought to life by embroidered birds and branch-clad flowers in brown-grey, blue and purple hues, with just the right amount of glittering lines of sparkles worked into the icons.

True to her signature style, there was a gothic whimsy to the dress, marking an evidently intimate collaboration between the codes of Dior and the bride's trademark look. To further accentuate the narrative of this special gown, the actress wore a dark-accented pixie-esque makeup look in contrast with her bleach-blonde hair, which was effortlessly whisked up into a casual half up-do.

Guests took the bride's dress-code to heart in their own interpretations—Julia Garner and Keleigh Teller took to Instagram to show off their art-deco, 1920s inspired looks, replete with beading and tassels respectively, while Cara Delevinge was spotted in a black pinstripe three-piece suit—ensuring that everyone and everything was styled in true Venetian fancifulness for the special day.
