Date night sorted: unique Valentine’s Day ideas

Whether you’re loved up, looking for romance or getting over a break-up there’s plenty to do this Valentine’s Day.

If you’re still trying to find the perfect Valentine’s Day activity that goes beyond dinner and a movie, local businesses are showing the love with more unconventional yet romantic options.

Animal lovers can enjoy some koala-ty time at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’s Valentine’s Day Dinner, where couples will be treated to a three course dinner, live music, a guided tour through the nocturnal reptile den, and a photo-op with one of the sanctuary’s resident koalas.

“This is an exclusive event, so it’ll be quite intimate in the fact that there won’t be any more than 50 people,” Currumbin Wildlife sanctuary general manager Travis Couch said.

“So it’s really that exclusive opportunity to enjoy your evening in a beautiful natural setting.”

For a cinema experience with a twist, the W Hotel in Brisbane is hosting Float-In Cinema sessions daily from Sunday February 12 to February 14.

For $109 per person, moviegoers will float in an inflatable lounger in the hotel’s rooftop pool in front of a large cinema screen, while tucking into a choice of three grazing boxes, and sipping a glass of bubbles or an I Heart You cocktail upon arrival.

“It’s a really unique event because the guests don’t need to get wet if they don’t want to, our staff actually jump in the pool to serve the guests,” W Hotel’s Marketing manager Trixie Parado said.

“So our guests can come dressed in their beautiful date night outfits or in the swimmers.”

Rage Cage Smash Room Operations Manager Stephanie Reck said their smash rooms have the perfect package for those wanting to release some pent up energy.

Their Brisbane, Gold Coast and Ipswich locations are offering a special “Broken Hearts Pack” from $39 where customers can destroy a range of ‘smashable’ objects using an assortment of bats and weapons. The special pack includes a crate of crockery, a crate of wine/spirit bottles, a colour filled golden egg with a heart on it, and a red and Pink colour smash.

“This pack would suit a Valentines Date, or even a day out with a group of friends who may have had a bit of heart break this year,” Ms Reck said.

Adrenaline junkies can also impress their lover, best mate or a group of friends by taking advantage of Skydive Australia’s “Falling for you” deal, where thrill seekers can save $40 per person by booking online for two or more people before February 15.
