Caravanners' storage hack is a game changer for driving days

Plus, it'll only set you back $15.

How to camp right in Australia : What you need to know

Finding storage for everything in your caravan seems doable for days when you’re going to be stationary, but when you’re on the road? That’s a whole different challenge.

You can’t turn one corner without hearing banging and clashing and rolling behind you, leaving you scared to turn around and see the damage.

One of the trickiest things to manage is your fruit - as a bowl on the bench isn’t really going to cut it on a driving day.

Thankfully, Aussies have come up with the perfect solutions.

"I'm sick of moving the fruit around!"

An Aussie caravanner has taken to Facebook this week, asking for tips on how to store fruit on the go when you have no storage space to spare.

"The fridge is full and we only have overhead cupboards, no slide pantry, and I’m sick of moving the fruit around depending on where I’m cooking or sitting," the caravan owner explained.

The DIY option?

A fruit hammock was one of the most popular responses, with commenters encouraging the poster to make one themselves, or buy one online from either a budget retailer, or a small business.

"I have one of the macrame hangers you can buy off Temu. Keeps it all off the bench," one user suggested.

"I also use a fruit hammock," another added.

"Mine was made by a friend, however, if you look on Temu, you may find something."

Fruit hammocks are no new thing, and have been promoted by caravanners for years.

Aussie travellers @willowrooadventures took to TikTok to share theirs recently, adding that ‘having an organised van makes all the difference’.

Or, head to Bunnings!

Others, however, had more creative suggestions, with some recommended installing wall planters from Bunnings to do the job.

"Bunnings wall planter with the insert taken out works well," one commenter said.

"This is a half-circle garden basket that I bought from Bunnings. I sprayed-painted it in black and hung it on the wall with Fusion Loc hooks. Works well for us," another said, sharing a photo.

These particular planters can be purchased from the store for as little as $15.

Some opted to purchase similar options from Kmart, which retail for a similar price.

Save your money

If you’re looking for an even less permanent option, however, you might want to take some advice from Aussie campers @exploringfive, who suggested just popping your fruit in the microwave to stop it from going anywhere.

“Driving day hack,” they said in the video.

“Store your fruit bowl in the microwave!”
