Big names turn out for $6m ‘Hannah’s Sanctuary’ fundraiser
Nearly 600 people - including Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk - turned out for a Hannah Clarke fundraiser last night with proceeds finishing a $6m townhouse complex for DV victims.

Nearly 600 people gathered last night for the inaugural Small Steps 4 Hannah Gala Ball, with proceeds going to furnish and run a townhouse complex for women and children fleeing domestic violence.
The charity’s first gala extravaganza was attended by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman, opposition leader David Crisafulli, Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll, representatives from the Queensland Police Union and domestic violence advocates.
Small Steps 4 Hannah was founded by Sue and Lloyd Clarke after the horrific domestic violence murders of their daughter Hannah and grandchildren Aaliyah, 6, Laianah, 4 and Trey, 3.
Last night’s sold-out fundraising event will go towards furnishing “Hannah’s Sanctuary” - a $6 million complex of nine townhouses being built by a mystery property developer who read
about Hannah’s story.
“We need to fit them out, furnish them,” Lloyd told The Sunday Mail.
“We’ve done some sums and we’re looking at over $10,000 each unit.”
Lloyd said they’d been blown away by the generosity of businesses who had contacted the charity offering to help.
He said the Queensland Police Union had donated $10,000, which would be used to furnish one of the townhouses and National Tiles had emailed offering to provide the flooring after hearing an interview Lloyd did with a Sydney radio station.
“We’ve had so much donated for the ball. Stockyard Beef gave us 100kg of Wagyu beef, Last Man Standing supplied the beer,” he said.
“A lady from Sydney contacted us because she had a set of rings she wanted to donate - wedding and engagement rings. They’re valued at $22,000.”
He said Hannah “loved a party” and would have been thrilled by the generosity of people who attended and contributed to helping victims of domestic violence.
