'Better than the real thing': ALDI's dupe a winner with Biscoff fans

If you see it, get it! No more notes...

ALDI's Speculoos Biscuits: the biscuit everyone is raving about

I am pretty confident when I say that ALDI is revelling in it's Biscoff dupe era right now.

Following a recent visit to the German supermarket, I discovered why TikTok is obsessed with their tubs of Biscoff mousse. Phe-nom!

Like anyone with a decent enough palate, I do love me some Biscoff. I appreciate the sweetness, the hint of spice, the crunch. I can go without the blood sugar spike, but meh, my doctor probably loves them too.

ALDI is in their Biscoff dupe era

What I didn't realise at the time of my mousse discovery, was that there are a heap of other Biscoff dupe items being sold at ALDI right now and all the lovers of the original biccy are raving about them.

I bring to you a follow-up to the viral mousse... the Speculoos mini creme bites!

The double-row pack of creme-filled cookies is retailing at just $2.99. They can be found in the biscuit aisle of the supermarket and reportedly available for a limited time, so naturally, I grabbed a pack to try.

I wasted no time opening them up to sample one when I got home and before I knew it, almost the whole row was gone. Yes, they were that good! And dare I say it... better than the original Biscoff biscuit.

Why? Because they're crunchier, have a vanilla creme centre, and yeah, I'm going to say they're cute too with their floral shape and smile imprint. We eat with our eyes, folks.

Customers claim they're better than the original

I am not the only one who thinks these little treats might just be better than the OG Biscoff.

Another satisfied customer hit the Aldi Fans Australia Facebook group to share their delight.

"Tried the mini speculoos biscuits and they’re really yum, was expecting it to be overly sweet but it’s not," they claimed.

And others agreed online.

"It's not a Biscoff joop, speculoos is the OG and it's so yum," one person boldly claimed.

"So good, I agree," another chimed in.

Others added to the conversation highlighting how cheap the packet was at $2.99 compared to Biscoff biscuits at other supermarkets.

What's the actual difference?

While the taste is certainly there, let's look at the actual ingredients to see how they compare.

The original Biscoff ingredients include:

  • Wheat Flour
  • Sugar
  • Real Belgian Chocolate (Sugar, Cocoa Mass, Cocoa Butter, Skimmed Milk Powder, Butter Oil, Emulsifier [Soy Lecithin and Polyglycerol Polyricinoleate])
  • Vegetable Oils (Contains one or more of Soybean Oil, Sunflower Oil, Canola Oil, Palm Oil)
  • Brown Sugar Syrup
  • Sodium Bicarbonate (Leavening)
  • Soy Flour
  • Salt
  • Cinnamon

Turning the packet over, the Speculoos biscuits aren't all that different in their ingredients. But really, it's the hint of cinnamon that really does it, let's be honest.

If you're a massive Biscoff fan... you'll also know that Speculoos also comes in gelato form for $5.99 at ALDI.

Crumble those bad-boy cookies on top and thank me later.
