In just over a week, Brisbane’s best kid’s mullet will be revealed.
We’ve got the lowdown on the current top five and why their parents believe they deserve the title of Brisbane’s top kid’s mullet.
First place is currently Elijah Gunn, 8, from New Beith.
After deciding to grow out a mullet “for fun” during the Covid lockdowns, Elijah is now known as the “flying mullet” at school.
“He puts a lot of effort into growing the mullet and stole his mums hair products to look after the ringlets. He has broken school rules to keep growing it,” his mum Shannon Gunn said.
In second place is Rome Wolf Grogan, 4, from Thornlands.
Despite his young age, Rome is especially proud of his mullet and will willingly shake it for anyone that asks.
In third place by just one vote is Max McCaffrey, 10, from Rochedale South.
His mother, Kate McCaffrey, described him as charismatic.
“It’s a statement of his fearless individuality and boundless energy. It perfectly encapsulates the essence of Brisbane’s youth, making him a deserving contender for Brisbane’s best kid’s mullet,” she said.
In fourth place is Arlo Stephens, 5, from Capalaba.
Arlo has been growing his mullet since before he could even walk. “It’s such a big part of him,” his mum Melissa Kurittu said.
“His mullet grew naturally when he was a baby. Everyone that knows Arlo knows him as the mullet kid.
“He gets so many compliments wherever we go.
“I honestly couldn’t imagine him without one.”
Not far behind is Bailey Thomas Matchett, 12, from Griffin, in fifth place.
Bailey has been “rocking his mullet since before they were cool again,” according to his parents.
“Despite everyone’s effort to cut it off, he has stuck to his guns and is a real Aussie boy,” they said.
