Bar the Kardashians, the Beckham family are arguably one of the tightest-knit celebrity broods gracing our Instagram feeds. But now, rumours of a long-standing feud threaten to topple the Beckham brand. Here’s what you need to know. 

If there’s one thing David and Victoria Beckham are used to, it’s speculation about their personal lives from the media. For over two decades, the football star and Spice Girl have been the subject of rumoured breakups, affairs, pregnancies, illnesses and of course, family feuds. 

The latter of which has been one of the most hotly followed celebrity stories this year, with fans honing in on a rumoured feud between the Beckham clan and eldest son Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham. 

There’s only one thing people love watching and reading about more than celebrity weddings and birth announcements: celebrity family feuds. The uglier a bitter disagreement between brothers, parents or exes plays out in front of the world, the better. 

And while speculation about the Royal family’s very public transatlantic rift continues to capture our attention, England’s other prominent family tree is threatening to steal the spotlight with their latest tiff. 

David and Victoria Beckham – two of England’s most famous faces – have long been praised for raising their three sons and daughter in such a close-knit family dynamic, supporting their children in following in their famous footsteps.

Now, rumours of simmering tension between oldest son Brooklyn’s wife, Nicola Petz Beckham, and the family’s matriarch, Posh Spice herself, threaten to destroy the Beckham brand for good. 

Where the rumours started

After meeting in 2019 and becoming engaged the following year, Peltz and Brooklyn were married in a lavish ceremony in 2022. Peltz, the daughter of billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz, is an actress and filmmaker. 

Anyone who has had to plan a wedding knows the task is no easy feat, juggling the requests and ‘suggestions’ of in-laws, parents, planners and friends. Add to that cocktail of stress a global spotlight and a barrage of media coverage, as well as a guestlist of celebrity style icons and fashion designers, and it’s easy to see that it’s certainly plausible that the pressure may have gotten the best of the young bride. 

So what exactly happened? 

While rumours surrounding the family’s wedding-related tension back in 2022 have never been publicly discussed by any Peltz or Beckham members, sources say it all has something to do with the bride’s controversial decision to forego wearing a Victoria Beckham wedding dress on the day, despite cycling through three different gowns during the festivities. 

While not saying yes to her mother-in-law’s dress might seem like a trivial thing to most, it’s rumoured to have laid the groundwork for the couple’s Harry and Meghan-esque retreat from the Beckham family brand. 

Now, recent developments in the family’s ongoing feud have resurfaced old wounds, and despite David and Victoria’s efforts to maintain their tight-knit family image, fans believe the rift with their eldest son may be too big to broach. 

If the eldest Beckam and his wife were looking to put an end to the speculation, their recent public appearances (or lack thereof) haven’t exactly been helping.

Failing to make an appearance at not one but all five of his father’s lavish birthday celebrations this past week, Brooklyn and Peltz have reignited claims that the actress is unable to get along with his famous parents. 

Originally poised to attend the prestigious Met Gala event in New York (perhaps one of the only acceptable excuses for missing David Beckham’s birthday bash), Brooklyn and Peltz instead decided to fly to London – a trip most would assume was to join the rest of his infamous family. 

But neither Brookly nor Peltz were spotted at any of the Beckhams’ celebrations, despite being in the same city.  

Judging by Victoria Beckham’s very coordinated family photo posted to Instagram, the Beckham crew managed to enjoy the celebrations in style, despite missing their eldest son. 

Posing together, the stars shared photos with their three youngest children, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 13.

According to entertainment news hub, TMZ, Brooklyn and his bride intended to celebrate privately with the Beckhams, only to be snubbed by the famous footballer and told to instead attend his star-studded party. 

While most of us would dream about spending Christmas with a mother-in-law as chic and iconic as Posh Spice, sources all over the internet claim the popstar-turned-designer and Peltz’s personalities completely clash. 

While it’s important to note this rumoured feud could possibly be nothing more than another attempt by the internet to pit two famous women against each other, the current rhetoric surrounding the pair’s relationship isn’t exactly promising. 

According to ‘sources’, Victoria feels ‘betrayed’ by her son prioritising his wife over his parents and family, and that Peltz has ‘isolated’ Brooklyn from the rest of them. 

On the flipside, Peltz is said to want to ‘build her own family brand with Brooklyn’ away from the Beckhams, feeling that her husband’s famous parents are too ‘controlling’. 

As for the birthday boy, David Beckham, his patience in acting as a peacemaker for the family is wearing thin, according to recent reports. 

With the family members yet to publicly address the feud, the internet has been trying its best to fill in the gaps. 

According to sleuthing fans, Victoria and Peltz’s tension is due to none other than a difference in their sense of humour, with Posh Spice’s classic British wit flying over Peltz’s head, who in turn has resorted to jokes about the designer’s age. 

And while some may side with Peltz’s criticism of her famous ‘monster-in-law’, comments made by one of Brooklyn’s ex-girlfriends have fans questioning Peltz’s claims. 

Summer House star Lexi Wood, who dated the eldest Beckham for a little over a year in 2018, opened up about her experience in a podcast interview, stating their a tight-knit, lovely and supportive crew, “They’re a beautiful family. Victoria, she’s the style icon. They’re the coolest family,” she says. 

The newest Beckham – and possibly the person responsible for the current divide within the brood – has a Yiddish tattoo that reads ‘Family first’. While perhaps not the most important detail to hone in on, we can’t ignore the irony of it. 

Regardless of what’s really going on behind the scenes, the long-brewing disunion amongst the Beckhams proves that no amount of money, style or fame can save you from tension with your in-laws.
