Streetwear may be her go-to style, but athlete Morgan Mitchell has no qualms about going glam, especially for Stellar’s fashion shoot.
“I love it. My friends know how much I enjoy fashion and dressing up,” she reveals. “I’m very much a tomboy, but I put a lot of thought into my outfits, even when I’m training. It all has to make sense in my head.”
And training is at the top of Mitchell’s agenda these days. Having made her name as a runner in the Rio Olympics in 2016, the now 26-year-old tells Stellar that while she was disappointed by the year-long delay of the Toyko Games, “There were much bigger problems going on in the world.”
An injury meant that she missed the national athletics championships in Sydney last month, but she’s now upbeat. “I’m feeling great. I had a little setback, but we’re back on track now and I’m super excited,” she says.
“It sucks to miss nationals, but I’m a firm believer in everything happening for a reason. My injury made me realise how much I love track and field, and how desperate I am to be on that team, gunning for my second Olympics.”
Mitchell recently joined the F45 Training brand as one of its Training Athletes, which means she appears on screens at its studios around the world; she’s the first Olympian to do so and says it’s an “awesome” honour.
But regardless of the highs she may reach in her career, she says her family and friends keep her grounded. “They think I’m very blessed,” she says, laughing.
“They keep me humble and always remind me they’re proud of me, no matter what. At the end of the day, I’m still just ‘Morgs’.”
