Aussie matcha lovers are calling for a new drink to be added to the McDonald’s menu after the “McDonald’s Strawberry Matcha” went viral on TikTok.

Fashion content creator Lisa Briggs uploaded a video earlier this week when she claimed she was able to purchase a strawberry matcha at a McDonald’s drive thru.

“Could I get iced matchas with oat milk,” she asked the attendant.

The next clip shows the two of them reviewing the drink as a “solid nine out of 10.”

Reactions to the drink were mostly positive, with many asking whether the menu item was real.

“I’m so confused and I work at Maccas,” one commenter replied.

“I get the feeling these girls just ordered an iced matcha and asked for strawberry topping,” another commenter added.

Clothing brand Jagger and Stone jumped on the trend, filming a reaction to trying the drink.

“We just went to Maccas and got the new strawberry matcha. Unreal, so much strawberry,” they said.

The following day the clothing brand uploaded an instructional video on how to create a strawberry matcha at home.

But not everyone realised the video was a prank, with multiple people uploading videos about their disappointment at the McDonald’s drive thru.

“So yesterday I went to Maccas because of these two girls. I went to my Maccas and drove through and asked for the strawberry matcha drink,” beauty creator Tian Tsui said in a video.

“I was so excited and the guy told me ‘I don’t think it’s available in Australia.’ I’m like, what do you mean I just saw it on TikTok. I felt so dumb.”

In another video, TikTok user Aeion Villanueva recorded herself asking a McDonald’s employee whether they have the viral drink available for purchase.

“Hi, I’m so sorry but do you guys have the strawberry matcha,” she asked the drive thru attendant.

After being told the drink was not available for purchase, the TikTok user asked for an apple pie instead.

“I am so embarrassed right now. Why did I even get an apple pie, I don’t know,” she said.

“Maccas give the girlies what they want,” the caption read.

Much to the disappointment of TikTok users, McDonald’s currently does not sell any products featuring the popular green tea powder.
