$12 Coles item rivals $120 designer version
A budget-friendly collection at Coles has sent shoppers into a frenzy after discovering the toys are near-identical to an expensive designer brand.
A $12 item from Coles that is up to 10 times cheaper than its luxury counterpart is being hailed as “cute” by supermarket shoppers.
TikTok user @sashsays was in her local Coles supermarket in Melbourne when she spotted something that looked very familiar.
Sitting on a shelf was a range of plush toys that she claimed was a “rip-off” of another popular brand of stuffed toys called Jellycat, which was founded in the UK.
It’s the first time Coles has featured the plush range, which has proved to be incredibly popular, sales wise.
The soft toys are only available for a limited time in Coles.

“Look how cute this is,” Sasha said.
“A complete rip-off of Jellycats but not expensive at all. Look at this tree, oh my god it’s so cute.
“There’s so many of them.”
The shopper was not wrong. The festive Coles range features Christmas trees, wreaths, gingerbread men, Santas, Christmas puddings and elves.
Social media users were in awe of the $12 toys. Meanwhile, Jellycat has a gingerbread house that retails for $119.95.
“Is it weird I want to put the wreath one on my front door,” one social media user asked.
One added: “Fake jellycats and Coles radio also playing a banger in the background.”
“I need the tree,” another commenter said.
A Coles spokesperson commented about the popularity of the exclusive collection.
“We’re delighted to see the excitement around these adorable plush toys, which are part of this year’s Christmas range and designed to bring a little extra joy to our customers this festive season,” the spokesperson told news.com.au.
“They’re a first for Coles, and it’s easy to see why these exclusive toys have quickly become such a popular find in the lead-up to Christmas.”
It comes after Jellycat — a plush toy that's proved insanely popular among children and adults alike — announced that David Jones in Sydney’s CBD now has a dedicated internal Jellycat store.
There’s also a store in the DJs inside the newly renovated Chatswood Chase mall.
While David Jones has carried a small Jellycat range previously, there was no dedicated space until.
The department store now boasts Australia’s largest collection of Jellycats. The Sydney CBD location also has an entire Christmas window dedicated to the plush toy — starring a set of oversized marshmallows.
Tina Provis, from I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! and Love Island Australia, was one of the first influencers who got a sneak peek at the Sydney CBD location, which is located on Level 9.
She revealed some of items in the range — including a stack of waffles and the Christmas collection.
“So many cuties looking for homes,” the reality star said.
Popular lifestyle and food content creator @anniesbucketlist also shared her preview, revealing her excitement about the Amuseables.
“They’ve even got all the big Jellycat Jacks here and stuffed animals like skydragon, Gobfrey the whale shark and Bartholemew Bear in a robe,” she said.
“There’s also a Jellycat Christmas cart with all the limited edition Christmas stock.”
The content creator also showed the price range, with some items costing $52.99, $86.99 and $144.99.
Understandably, in the current global cost of living crisis, some were stunned by the cost.
“Why didn’t they keep the overseas prices (but I know the exchange to AUD is crazy),” one social media user said.
Another said: “How expensive are they?!”
“The price WTF,” one asked.
Another weighed in: “Wait, what!?! Them plush!!! But the price tag — ouch!”
But others didn’t seem to care that much about the price point.
“I need to go here,” one social media user said.
“I was literally at Sydney CBD at Meeq. Are you kidding,” another commented.
