If transforming your workout routine is at the top of your New Year’s intentions, here are the fitness trends and workouts set to skyrocket in popularity next year.
This past year has brought nothing if not a surge of TikTok-endorsed fitness trends and celebrity-loved workouts. From infrared Pilates to the resurgence of the Stairmaster (thanks a lot, TikTok) fitness fanatics have eagerly tried their hand at every workout the internet has thrown their way.
Whether you’re drawn to strength classes or just can’t get enough cardio, this year’s sweat-inducing and stamina-testing trends have left us feeling that endorphin high on repeat. So, how can we expect to sweat up a storm in 2025?
Using Google Keyword Planner to analyse trend-based searches, PureGym has compiled the top ten fitness trends set to define our movement in 2025, as well as the trends that are on their way out.
The biggest fitness trend for 2025
A true testament to the times we live in, remote personal training has been crowned the fastest-growing fitness trend set to take over in 2025, with a staggering 414 per cent surge in interest over the last six months.
The globally endorsed training method, first brought to fruition during the pandemic in 2020, allows personal trainers to diversify their offerings and train clients remotely.
Hailed for its convenience and flexibility – two things highly sought after in the modern world – remote personal training eliminates the challenge of working around a busy schedule and time-consuming travel time.
“Incorporating these kinds of workouts into your routine means less time planning and more time doing,’ explains The Yard Gym Co-Founder, Tiarne Bova. “It’s about making every minute count, proving that a busy life doesn't have to mean sacrificing your fitness.”
According to Bova, we can expect to see a resurgence of functional fitness and hybrid training alongside this exponential interest in remote personal training.
“While both functional and hybrid training offers significant benefits, integrating them can be particularly powerful. Starting with a solid foundation in functional fitness ensures that your body is well-prepared and movement-efficient, which enhances your ability to tackle more complex and diverse workouts found in hybrid training,” she says.
“By focusing first on functional fitness, you establish a strong base of movement literacy, which allows you to dive into hybrid training with the confidence that your body can handle various demands effectively.”

Community-driven training is on the rise
If you can’t seem to go outside without spotting a run club or two, you’re not alone. The group-based workout phenomenon has become a staple community attraction in almost every postcode, encouraging people with similar fitness goals to get together to sweat and socialise throughout the week.
Despite the obvious increase in virtual and remote training options in the list above, there will always be a demand for community-driven training, according to Bova, “They create a profound sense of belonging, connection, and support as individuals come together to motivate each other and share their fitness journeys,” she says.
“Joining a community like The Yard Gym Run Club can transform your training from a solitary routine to the social highlight of your week. It’s about more than just running; it’s about connecting, sharing experiences, and pushing each other forward.”
Fitness trends on their way out in 2025
Not every workout is created equal, with the data used to compile the list of upcoming trends also revealing which fitness trends-turned-fads are on their way out.
Some of TikTok’s most talked about viral workouts, such as treadmill strutting and the 12-3-30 method are rapidly declining in popularity.
The biggest fad set to fade, however, is the 28-day wall Pilates challenge, with the data showing an 84 per cent decrease in search interest in the last 12 months.
