ANGELIKA Gavare has admitted stealing a man's credit card and going on a shopping spree four months before she murdered and dismembered Vonne McGlynn.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court yesterday, Gavare pleaded guilty to one count of theft, one count of deception and one count of attempted deception.

Police prosecutors then dropped seven other dishonesty charges as part of a plea bargain.

Gavare, 36, is currently serving a 32-year non-parole period for the December 2008 murder of Ms McGlynn.

The Supreme Court ruled Gavare was motivated by greed when she murdered the pensioner, dismembered her body and prepared her home for sale.

Yesterday Senior Constable Trevor Orchard, prosecuting, said that crime was preceeded by a string of dishonesty offences on August 23, 2008.

At the time, Gavare was working at a newsagency in the Noarlunga Shopping Centre.

"A man had given his daughter his credit card, along with a piece of paper containing his PIN," Sen Cst Orchard said.

"Gavare stole those items, as well as $34 cash that had been withdrawn, at the newsagency."

He said that, after finishing work, Gavare went on a "shopping spree" in the centre, purchasing goods to the value of $1244.86.

She bought items including groceries, alcohol, designer clothing for the youngest of her two daughters and four bottles of perfume worth $82.

Later that day, the card was declined when Gavare tried to buy more groceries at a Christies Beach supermarket  police were then called.

"Gavare stated it was 'not her' and police 'had it wrong'," Sen Cst Orchard said.

Jess Kurtzer, for Gavare, said her client was willing to repay the money she had stolen.

"She is working at the Northfield Women's Prison, in the laundry, seven days a week," she said.

"She has no estate, no other source of income... her house has been sold to cover the mortgage, there's nothing left."

Magistrate Joseph Baldino convicted Gavare on each count, but declined to impose further penalty.

He said doing so would be "of purely academic interest" given her life sentence.
