A REAL life crime scene has played out on the internet after a dead body was captured via Google Images.

The body is seen lying next to railroad tracks in a number of images near Sandford Avenue in the American city of Richmond, California.

In one photo, a policeman is seen standing over the body, while in another, a number of unidentified people are attending the scene.

It is unconfirmed what happened to the body, but local news service Richmond Confidential has described the tracks as "troubled" and a hotspot for hardcore crimes. In 2007, the city was rated the 9th most dangerous city in the United States. It is known as the "Iron Triangle".

Six people were murdered in the railroad's vicinity between February and October 2009, including 14-year-old Kevin Barrera, whose "battered and shot" body was found just south of Sandford Avenue.

"It was tragic what happened to that boy," said Diane Gatewood from Richmond's Office of Neighbourhood Safety.

"I was at that scene, he was found right next to the tracks and everybody around was really shaken up."

Meanwhile, another image captured by Google which looks eerily like a bloodied murder scene has been debunked by a group of savvy sleuths.

What looks to be a bloodied trail leading to a body lying on jetty in the Netherlands turned out to be a simple game of fetch between an owner and his dog, reports The Huffington Post.

The trail? Simply a path of water left over by the dog.
