Fans were left baffled by Tom Cruise’s face when he made an appearance during Sunday night’s Superbowl game.

Super Bowl LIX viewers rushed to social media to share their confusion over Tom Cruise’s physical appearance.

Fans shared their disbelief at how “different” the now 62-year-old actor looked when he made an appearance on-screen during the big game.

Numerous tweets from viewers suggested Cruise’s face looked “stretched”, with some suggesting he appears to have had cosmetic work done.

Introducing the trailer for his new movie, he told those watching at home: “Tonight in New Orleans we encounter a mission that doesn’t come along very often. Standing in front of this final act knowing that the long winding road here has all led to this.

“Everything this sport has seen and done; every first, every mountain climbed, every seemingly impossible – conquered, yet there’s always another accomplishment never achieved. There’s always new heights waiting to be reached,” he added.

Fans were quick to share their thoughts following his surprise appearance.

“Tom Cruise on this #SuperBowlLIX talking about pressure — there is no greater pressure than that of his skin trying to stay stretched on his face,” remarked one viewer.

“Whose face was Tom Cruise wearing? It looked familiar, but I couldn’t make it out,” joked another.

A third tweeted: “Scientology is not working for Tom Cruise’s face WTF?”

“Do you think that the Tom Cruise we saw tonight during the Super Bowl was AI?” questioned one, while another added: “Tom Cruise has had more face work done (than) a Beverly Hills housewife!”

Meanwhile, the actor recently spoke to Empire about filming the latest Mission: Impossible instalment, The Final Reckoning, which is set to be released in cinemas this May.

During the interview, he revealed just how intense some of his stunts in the movie were to film.

In one scene, shown on the cover of Empire, Cruise can be seen holding onto a 1930s biplane as it flies through the air. True to Cruise’s typical style, he filmed the scene himself.

“When you stick your face out, going over 120 to 130 miles an hour (193km/h to 210km/h), you’re not getting oxygen,” he explained about the scene.

“So I had to train myself how to breathe. There were times I would pass out physically; I was unable to get back into the cockpit.”
