The renowned Woodford Folk Festival is back, with colourful crowds, artists and entertainers coming together for six days of merrymaking to herald the new year.

After the festival was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19 restrictions, Arts Minister Leeanne Enoch heralded its return as a boost for local arts and tourism, with up to $25 million expected to be brought in by visitors to the Moreton Bay region.

“Woodford Folk Festival brings communities together and delivers arts, First Nations culture, music, dance, circus, ceremony and important conversations in one of Queensland’s most beautiful settings,” Ms Enoch said.

“I’m thrilled to see a line-up of local talent and stories set to be celebrated as part of this iconic event.”

Local talent such as Brisbane’s Jaguar Jonze, Toowoomba’s Cloe Terare, and Noosa-born Mia Wray will take the stage, alongside world-renowned acts including John Butler and Boy & Bear.

Following in the footsteps of Labor luminary and Woodford regular the late Bob Hawke, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will be one of the guest speakers.

And with dozens of workshops ranging from marionette making to freediving, there is something for all types.

Festival founder and director Bill Hauritz thanked the state government for its support, with $4 million promised over the next four years.

“We’re excited to be back,” he said.

“Although season camping has sold out, there are still plenty of day and evening tickets available for those who are keen to close out the year in the beautiful surrounds of Woodford.”
