Sonia Kruger has revealed she was quite surprised by the behaviour of one of the new coaches on The Voice.
This year, Voice veteran Guy Sebastian is joined by three newbies on the coaching panel: LeAnn Rimes, Adam Lambert and Kate Miller-Heidke.
Sebastian mentioned during Channel 7’s Logies coverage on Sunday that the new season, which premieres at 7.30pm tonight, is “a bit more of a fiery year than previous years”.
And now Kruger has named which coach was responsible for the drama.
“Kate is a bit of a surprise package because she does come out firing with the Americans,” the host told news.com.au. “It’s definitely unexpected viewing.”
Kruger said that Rimes and Lambert weren’t quite sure how to react to the Aussie singer.
“At first I think they’re trying to work out what’s going on. Is she joking? Is she serious? But yeah, there’s a bit of a journey that you’ll go through with it.”
When asked if there was some behind the scenes tension between the trio, Kruger told news.com.au: “Not that I saw, but the coaches … have their own little ‘coaches village’ so I’m not with them in-between shooting.”
Miller-Heidke spoke to Woman’s Day last week and seemed genuinely surprised that others had described her as “feisty” on The Voice.
“I just tried to be myself,” she said. “Sometimes I don’t really have a filter.
“It’s obviously a pretty strange atmosphere, television. It took me a little while to get used to it and feel confident because this was such a big learning curve.
“I just tried to be honest with people,” she said.
Interestingly, Miller-Heidke told Woman’s Day that she got along with Lambert the best.
“He and I had a special bond,” she said. “He’s great at making little offhand comments and he’s very funny – a total kook. I love him.”
She then singled out Sebastian as the coach she clashed with the most.
“I did have some tense moments with Guy … Because we knew each other a bit more, I felt like I could be quite blunt with him at times,” Miller-Heidke said.
More than 80 singers will take to the stage on the new season of The Voice, with the winner to receive $100,000 in prize money and a recording contract.
The Voice premieres on Channel 7 at 7.30pm on Monday, August 19
