Big Brother viewers outraged over ‘absolutely brutal’ way housemate evicted
Big Brother has sparked viewer outrage by disguising an eviction notice as a heartfelt letter from a contestant’s mother in shocking scenes.
Fans are outraged over the brutal way a Big Brother housemate was evicted from the show on Sunday night’s episode.
Popular housemate Edward Doak, who was not up for eviction last night, was sent packing in tears after he was booted off the reality show in a surprise twist.
But that’s not the reason why viewers are fuming on the eve of tonight’s season finale.
In tear-jerking scenes, each housemate – who have had zero contact with the outside world for the last four weeks – were sent letters from home written by their loved ones. Each letter was read aloud by the housemates and, understandably, there were tears all around.
Edward was the last to get his letter, which was read to him by fellow housemate Bruce.
The note started off as lovingly as the other letters, with Edward’s “mum” telling him how proud she is of him on the BB house.
However, the tone suddenly took a turn and it was soon discovered that the letter was not from home but was written by Big Brother himself to tell Edward he had been eliminated following a public vote.
The curve ball floored the contestants who tried to console Edward as tears streamed down his face.
Viewers were not impressed and swiftly took to X to slam the show in a barrage of tweets:
“Making him cry over the letter and it’s not even from his family is crazy work.”
“Thank god Ed is gone, but that is a SICK way to evict somebody.”
“This is low-key the cruellest way they would’ve evicted him wtf.”
“Another absolutely brutal eviction blindside, by letters from family. That’s rough.”
The last X user was referring to Vincent’s snap eviction in the middle of the night last week in another cruel twist.
The drama kicked off when the housemates were woken up in the early hours of the morning for their Christmas challenge, which was to drop everything and perform carols in festive outfits every time they heard the BB’s bells chime.
Naturally, Big Brother chose to ring the bells during the most random times. In that instance, it rang in the middle of the night, causing the housemates to get dressed in a panic before belting out Jingle Bells.
However, Big Brother‘s version of the otherwise joyful song revealed that Vinnie was the next to be evicted from the show.
“I look back on it with a laugh,” Vinnie later said in an exit interview with Who magazine. “It was a brutal way to go out, a very iconic way to go out, but how could I be bitter at Big Brother? He let me stay in his house for 23 days.”
But Vinnie said he is now scarred for life following his Christmas-themed eviction.
“I’m definitely scarred from Jingle Bells,” he said. “Christmas won’t be the same if I hear that song again.”
Big Brother finale airs tonight at 7.30pm on Ten
