Kyle Rittenhouse has opened up about his time in jail before his trial.

During a sit-down interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson, the 18-year-old revealed he spent 87 days in jail.

The teen described his jail cell as like “a one-star hotel”, comparing it to the budget hotel chain, Super 8, and said it had no running water.

“I had a desk, I had a shower, I had a toilet, I had a TV, I had a tablet but I didn’t have running water”, Rittenhouse told the Fox News host.

“I had a phone also, but I did not have running water until November 20th. From October 31st to November 20th, I did not take a shower.

“I smelled terrible, I felt sick, I lost weight, my health was degrading. If I was in there for a month longer, I probably would’ve ended up in a hospital.

“When I showered, I took like a three-hour shower. My skin was bleeding because my skin was coming off my body, it was just the nastiest thing ever.”

Rittenhouse told Carlson he was surprised that the news of his arrest was framed as a racial story and insists he is not a racist person.

“This case has nothing to do with race. It never had anything to do with race”, Rittenhouse said.

“It had to do with the right to self-defence. I’m not a racist person. I support the BLM movement, I support peacefully demonstrating. I believe there needs to be change.

“I believe there’s a lot of prosecutorial misconduct, not just in my case but in other cases. It’s just amazing to see how much a prosecutor can take advantage of someone.”

The teenager was cleared of charges of homicide, attempted homicide and reckless endangerment last week after shooting three people, killing two, during Black Lives Matter protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin last year.

During his two-week trial, Rittenhouse’s lawyers argued that the then 17-year-old acted in self-defence and only pulled the trigger on those who provoked him during the protests.

In the interview, Rittenhouse described to the broadcaster what he felt after he was attacked at gunpoint.

“I tell everybody there what happened. I said I had to do it. I was just attacked. I was dizzy, I was vomiting, I couldn’t breathe,” Rittenhouse said.

Rittenhouse will also be appearing in a “Tucker Carlson Originals” documentary on Fox Nation set to premiere in December. The documentary will include additional portions of the interview as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes access to Rittenhouse and his defence team.
