Kelly Clarkson has paid homage to an Australian pop classic in a surprise move on the latest episode of her chat show.
The TV star regularly performs well-known hits as part of her Kellyoake segment on her US show, including tracks by the likes of Ariana Grande and Pink which have then ended up going viral.
However, for her latest track Clarkson appeared to reveal herself as a big fan of Aussie pop as she belted out a cover of Tina Arena’s Chains.
While the song was a huge hit in Australia, it failed to make much of a dent around the rest of the world. It barely scraped the Top 40 in America before falling off the chart.
Fans rushed to compliment the star’s cover on Twitter, formerly known as X, with one tweeting: “A very iconic song for us Aussie who grew up with a Tina!” while another replied: “She woke up to slay as usual!”
Another tweeted: “Girl you’re killing me! Kelly Clarkson absolutely knocked Chains by Tina Arena out of the park!” while a fourth added: “Wow!!! This is a vocal masterpiece!! Wtf Kelly Clarkson!! This is SANGIN!”

However, despite Clarkson’s soaring vocals effortlessly matching the song, some Tina Arena fans weren’t pleased with her choice of cover.
“How dare you!” wrote one annoyed fan, while another said: “Really?! How rude.”
Meanwhile, Clarkson recently made a surprising parenting confession.
Clarkson revealed that she has a strict “no social media” rule for her children until they turn 18.
“[Social media] can be really hard on kids in general but especially kids with parents in the public eye,” the “Because Of You” singer told People in an interview. “So I have informed them they’re not allowed to, under my roof, ever have [it].”
Clarkson — who shares daughter River Rose, 9, and son Remington Alexander, 7, with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock — explained that enforcing rules for her children has its challenges.
“It’s hard enough when you’re married and come from two different backgrounds and ways to discipline and educate,” she said. “Doing that in different households can be tough.”
“My daughter was like, ‘Well, what if Dad lets me?’ I’m like, ‘Well, you’re there four days a month. Enjoy that.’ And right now he’s not letting them do it either,” Clarkson shared. “I’ll listen when they’re older, but until they have a solid argument, it’s a no.”
Clarkson, 41, and Blackstock, 47, finalised their divorce in March 2022, two years after filing. They were married for nearly seven years.
