Disgraced radio star Marty Sheargold appears to be facing the axe from his long-running gig on the popular TV show Have You Been Paying Attention?
The game show, which features a panel of comedians answering questiong about the news cycle, has been a huge success since launching in 2013 and has won eight Logie Awards.
Sheargold has been a part of the production since it began, but when it returns later this year host Tom Gleisner has hinted that the former radio presenter won’t be one of the familiar faces on the panel.
“That is interesting. I don’t know whether Marty is going to be back this year,” Gleisner told Confidential.
“To be honest with you, we haven’t done our guest schedule but he has certainly upset a lot of people and we’d hate to add any distress to that so we’d have to think very carefully.”
Sheargold sparked outrage earlier this year when he made derogatory remarks about the Matildas and women’s sport in general.
Sheargold claimed on his Triple M radio show that the professional football team reminded him of “year 10 girls” and he said he would “rather hammer a nail” through his penis than watch women’s sport.
Sheargold, a star of ABC TV comedy Fisk, also made wild remarks about female health
on his radio show that left many listeners fuming.
He said: “God, don’t ladies carry on. Jesus Christ, there is no end of it. Honestly, endometriosis, and this is controversial. No, I’m going to say it, it’s controversial. It’s made-up.”
Sheargold later issued an apology for his remarks about the Matildas, saying: “Any comedy including mine can miss the mark sometimes, and I can see why people may have taken offence at my comments regarding the Matildas. I sincerely apologise.”
