Foxtel scores record number of nominations for 2019 Logies Awards

Critically acclaimed prison drama Wentworth led Foxtel’s charge for a record number of nominations for honours at the 2019 Logie Awards.

Wentworth returns to Foxtel for seventh season

Foxtel has scored a record 20 nominations in the 2019 Logie Awards.

The pay TV network’s critically acclaimed prison drama Wentworth received six nominations, including Most Outstanding Drama Series and Most Popular Drama Series.

Wentworth stars Leah Purcell and Robbie Magasiva were also nominated for Most Outstanding Actress and Most Outstanding Actor, respectively.

Another Wentworth star Celia Ireland received a nod for Most Outstanding Supporting Actress nod, while Bernard Curry was nominated for Most Outstanding Supporting Actor.

The Logies nominations were announced in a ceremony at the Gold Coast today.

Brian Walsh, Foxtel’s executive director of television, said: “What a huge achievement for Foxtel.

“It’s fantastic to see Wentworth embraced by fans and critics alike, year after year. It is such a distinguished production with incredible storylines and brilliant actors, and we’re looking forward to another riveting season premiering this week.

“I’d also like to congratulate Foxtel’s other nominees who have been recognised today by both the industry and our viewers,” Mr Walsh said.

“To receive a record-breaking number of nominations across so many categories and genres is something to be proud of, and is testament to the hard work, professionalism and creativity of everyone involved.”

Foxtel got an additional seven nominations for its dramas A Place to Call Home, Fighting Season, Secret City : Under the Eagle and Mr Inbetween.

Political thriller Secret City: Under the Eagle was nominated for Most Outstanding Drama Series, with Danielle Cormack nominated for Most Outstanding Actress for her performance as maverick politician Karen Koutoufides.

A Place To Call Home is also up for two awards; Marta Dusseldorp is vying for Most Popular Actress honours, and Frankie J. Holden is nominated in the Most Outstanding Supporting Actor category.

Other Foxtel shows nominated today include Gogglebox Australia, Selling Houses Australia, and the crime doco Ron Iddles: The Good Cop.
