AUSSIE supermodel Miranda Kerr and other visiting celebrities are expected to be among big name cameos in a new fly-on-the-wall television series about national carrier, Qantas.

Casting has begun for the “access all areas” TV show with the airline’s boss Alan Joyce throwing open the opportunity for staff to appear in the multi-episode documentary — due to air on Channel 9 later this year.

A Qantas spokeswoman confirmed the Fremantle Media production “will feature Qantas staff sharing their day-to-day stories as they go about their various roles, from deep in the heart of the operations centre to our airport and ground handling teams, as well as our crews in the air.”

While a positive marketing exercise of the airline, it will also “highlight the everyday complexities of a global airline operation and the challenges associated with flying more than 70,000 passengers every day to over 80 destinations around the world and across Australia.”

Camera crews will be given “unprecedented access across Qantas operations over the next four months,” only limited by “security requirements,” a spokeswoman told NewsCorp Australia.

It is expected to also capture the handling of celebrity arrivals, the emotion of airport reunions as well as the drama behind some emergencies which arise, both in flight and on the ground.

While other airlines including low-cost UK carrier Easyjet have used their TV platform to expose the bad behaviour of passengers or feature customs and security busts, a production insider said the Qantas version “won’t be that low-brow.”

Nine has previously aired a comedy series parodying airline tell-alls, in Come Fly With Me, starring actor and comedian David Walliams.

The network recently lost the contract to provide Qantas with in-flight news updates, now exclusively provided by Sky News Channel.
