‘Bad behaviour’: MAFS bosses slam rogue contestants who ‘blame the edit’

Married At First Sight bosses have hit out at rogue brides and grooms on the show that make the excuse of ‘blaming the edit’.

The TV executives behind the Married At First Sight franchise has hit out at rogue brides and grooms who refuse to own up to their own behaviour.

Executive producers Alex Spurway and John Walsh have slammed contestants who use the age-old excuse of “blaming the edit” to explain their actions on the show.

Their comments come after rogue bride Jacqui revealed the outcome of her marriage and lashed out at producers after taking control of a new Instagram account.

“I don’t think there’s such a thing as a bad edit, just bad behaviour,” said TV exec Spurway.

“People come into MAFS flawed – we’re all flawed as human beings. And we’re never going to shy away from those flaws. We show the good, the bad, and the ugly.”

”If you come in and you have certain beliefs, or you’re not happy with something and then you watch it back, you need to be thinking about what beliefs you hold, what values you hold, or your behaviour – before you come for the edit.”

Fellow executive producer John Walsh agreed with Spurway, saying the brides and grooms know exactly what they’re in for.

“I don’t think many people would be happy if we filmed them for 10 weeks, 8 or 10 hours a day, and then showed highlights – some of the good and some of the bad,” Walsh explained.

“Very few people would be happy with what they saw on film after that.”

“They’re fully aware of what they’re getting into,” he added. “They make choices on the show about what they want to say and do, and then we put it to air.”

“And some are prepared to put their hand up and say, “yep, that’s me, and I’ll take accountability”. And others don’t.”

Their remarks come after bride Jacqui took to her newly-founded jewellery business social media page to break the rules of her MAFS contract by revealing her new relationship with a mystery man in the real world.

“I am currently in a relationship with a person who was exactly what I asked for – someone kind, considerate, a great man, and intelligent,” she wrote alongside a smiling selfie.

“Sometimes miracles happen because today I am in fact happy and in a loving long term relationship!”

Jacqui also told critics to “blame the editors” for her oddball portrayal on the series.
