Australia’s most famous vet Dr Chris Brown kicks off new television network gig at Logies

Dr Chris Brown launches his new television gig – rumoured to be worth $1m a year – at one of this year’s biggest Aussie entertainment industry events.

Revealed nominations for Logies 2023

Dr Chris Brown will start earning his rumoured $1 million a year pay cheque from the Seven network as the host of the TV Week Logies red carpet.

The popular presenter and TV vet will be joined by Gold Logie-nominee and Seven’s most high profile personality Sonia Kruger to helm the broadcast live from Sydney’s The Star on July 30.

Brown is set to rival Kruger as the network’s most visible presenter over his two-year contract, with Seven announcing he will also front two new series, Dream Home and a new animal adventure production.

David Knox, of blog TV Tonight, said Seven is capitalising on their poaching of the much-loved host from Ten but warned the network needed to be careful Brown doesn’t become overused.

“Chris Brown was always a pitch perfect TV vet on Bondi Vet, but eased into new roles on The Living Room and The Project,” he said.

“Working alongside Julia Morris on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here however, has been like a crash course in Live TV.

“He has absolutely shone beside her, taking to comic timing and ad libbing like a duck to water.”

“It opens up all kinds of horizons for him at Seven but while there will naturally be some mutually beneficial projects, they will need to be careful he doesn’t become overexposed.

“Renovation, pets, and now the red carpet … look out breakfast TV and dancing hosts?”

Brown said there was a real excitement around the Logies, which also has a new home at Seven after decades on Nine, being unpredictable this year.

“Nothing says unpredictable like putting a colour blind guy like me on the red carpet,” he said.

“However, luring Sam Pang off the green of the local golf course to host might be the wildest swing of all. I honestly can’t wait.”

Brown added, as far as he was concerned, Kruger epitomised the Logies.

“(She’s) naturally funny, fearless, flawless and a party animal,” he said.

“So while it may be a duty-of-care situation that they’ve paired her with a vet, I genuinely can’t wait to work with her …

Kruger was equally excited to be joining with the network’s new recruit as The Logies return to Sydney and Seven for the first time in decades.

“I’d like to thank the Seven Network for this early Christmas present,” she said.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Chris Brown on the amuse-bouche to the main event, the main course if you will, with the very tasty Sam Pang,” she said.

“Chris has such great, natural charisma and a brilliant sense of humour.

“With my brains and Chris’ beauty, this red-carpet show is going to be fresh, fun, unpredictable and bigger than ever.”

The pair joins a star-studded line-up of presenters for the evening including comedians Celeste Barber, and Joel Creasey; FBoy Island host Abbie Chatfield; Neighbours star Alan Fletcher, MKR judge Colin Fassnidge, Five Bedrooms’ Kat Stewart and Stephen Peacocke, Last King of The Cross actor Lincoln Younes, Home and Away’s Lynne McGranger, Gold Logie nominees Mark Coles Smith and Osher Gunsberg; new Sunrise host Matt Shirvington, MasterChef fave Poh Ling Yeow, and last year’s winner of the Graham Kennedy Award for Best New Talent Tony Armstrong.

The Logies will be hosted by comedian Sam Pang and broadcast on Channel 7 and 7Plus from 7pm, on Sunday, July 30.
