US award-winning singer Teddy Swims made a memorable entrance in Brisbane last night, not only with his powerful performance but with a dramatic enforcement of his concert rules.

Kicking off his Australian “I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy Tour” at Riverstage, Swims played to a sold-out crowd of thousands of fans who braved chilly and muddy conditions for a night they wouldn’t soon forget.

Swims, born Jaten Collin Dimsdale, electrified the stage in a sleeveless vest, short denim shorts, a fedora, and sunglasses.

His opening song, “Goodbye’s Been Good To You,” had the crowd roaring with excitement.

“How the f**k you feeling, Brisbane?” he shouted, and the thunderous response set the tone for the night.

However, Swims had more than music on his mind.

After his fifth song, he laid out a set of “golden rules” for the audience.

“We’re at the beginning of this and we got a long way to go,” he explained.

“Back home in Georgia, we call this thing a simple rule called ‘staying with it’, so you got to check on your friends. If you did anything like I did, you got way too hammered before Teddy Swims came out here to start. So what you need to do is drink water, check on your friends, and stay with it.”

“I want to set this rule now so that we’re all safe, we’re happy. Safety is the best thing we can do for each other.”

Swims even offered water and snacks to those upfront, humorously adding, “If you get hungry, we’ll throw you some damn chicken nuggets, I don’t care man. Please put your hand up if you get thirsty.”

The importance of these rules became strikingly clear mid-concert.

As Swims poured his heart into his most emotional song, “Something I’ll Never Know,” the show came to a sudden halt.

The band stopped playing, the lights came up, and Swims addressed the audience with frustration.

Two attendees had started a fight, blatantly disregarding his principles surrounding safety.

“Fighting on this song? That’s crazy. Like every other song I’d say maybe, but this song? That’s wild,” he exclaimed. “What happened to ‘staying with it’?!”

The crowd fell silent as the disruptive individuals were swiftly handled by security.

Swims, ever the professional, asked to restart the song, a request met with overwhelming cheers and applause.

“I thought we were having a moment, I was getting ready to cry … so let’s get back to the place where we all loved each other, I’m starting it over from the top,” he said, highlighting his dedication to a safe and respectful environment.

The concert continued with Swims showcasing his extraordinary ability to connect with his audience.

He choked back tears on several occasions, including during “Amazing,” and shared heartfelt life advice between songs.

“I might be a little sentimental, and I might be a little drunk,” he warned fans early on in the show.

His cover of Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One,” dedicated to the mothers in the audience, demonstrated his versatility and emotional depth.

Swims made a young fan’s night by gifting a necklace, albeit with a playful warning about its inappropriate inscription.

“The necklace says f*ck off on it, so don’t let him wear it to school,” he told the boy’s parents.

The climax of the night came with Swims’ number one hit, “Lose Control,” during which he brought a young boy on stage to help sing the chorus.

With his honesty, openness, and undeniable charisma, Teddy Swims proved that his music is more than just a performance; it’s a powerful outlet for his emotions and experiences.

Teddy Swims’ “I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy Tour” continues to spread its message of love, safety, and connection, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his upcoming shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth later this month.
