Kylie Minogue reacts to claims Taylor Swift copied her iconic Showgirl album cover

Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue has broken her silence after fans clashed over comparisons to Taylor Swift's new album cover.

Taylor Swift reveals her new album cover

Kylie Minogue has reacted to fans who argue that Taylor Swift copied her iconic Showgirl look.

Swift took the internet by storm after the surprise announcement of her new album.

She revealed the news on August 13 on boyfriend Travis Kelce’s podcast, but not everyone is thrilled by the news.

Loyal Minogue supporters were quick to point out the similarities between the singer’s Showgirl: The Greatest Hits era album cover and Swift’s new Life Of A Showgirl image.

The Can’t Get You Out Of My Head singer however was quick to shut down the speculation, praising “all my fellow hard working showgirls.”

The Aussie artist said: “When all your friends start sending you your Showgirl mems!!! Awww.

“Showgirl life is ‘a thing’, multi dimensional and so much more than feathers and dazzle.”

Minogue released her shining album 20 years ago and insisted there is no shade between the singers.

She added: “Respect and admiration to all my fellow hard working Showgirls.”

Aside from the likeness in titles, Minogue fans jumped on Swifts outfit choice, which is a iconic feather-clad get up.

Both celebs are sporting silver gem-encrusted garments in their albums, including head gear and bold make-up.

Fans took to social media to both accuse and defend chart-topper Swift.

One declared on Instagram: “There’s only one Showgirl and that’s Kylie!!”

“So lovely of Taylor to pay tribute to our showgirl,” another joked.

However a passionate Swiftie argued: “These comments dragging Taylor are exhausting.

“Kylie is one of my faves but how about we stop pitting women against each other?”

A second agreed: “I love Kylie but she wasn’t the one who invented this theme.”

Regardless of the conflicts in comment section of social media, it’s clear there is no bad blood between the pop stars.

And the positive reaction to Swift’s new album far outweighs the negative.

The American singer thrilled fans with a string of revelations about her new album as well as her private life in a marathon podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce.

In a sprawling two-hour conversation on the brothers’ New Heights podcast, Swift sent fans into a frenzy by revealing the cover of her upcoming The Life of a Showgirl album, which will be released on October 3.

The star also told how her blockbuster Eras Tour was “the most formative time of my life” and how her boyfriend Travis Kelce had been eager to visit Australia.

Referring to the tour, she said: “I do miss it. But it was perfect for what it was. It was a lot of physical therapy. And it was a lot of being in a state of perpetual physical discomfort.

“I miss the fans and that connection. I learned so much about how far I can push myself.”

Swift also described how she and Kelce got to know each other while globetrotting for the tour.

“What was really fun about all the countries is when we first started dating, Travis was like. ‘I want to vacation in Europe, and see Australia’, and I was like, ‘I got a tour for that’,” Swift said.

“We got to travel the world and have adventures when I wasn’t onstage. Europe was so fun. Australia is amazing.”

Swift also revealed that her dad Scott is doing “incredibly well” after he underwent quintuple bypass surgery.

“He is doing incredibly well,” she said. “That’s a really intense surgery. It all happened really quick.”

Swift shared that her mum, Andrea, also recently had a knee replacement.

“It was the summer of my parental upgrades,” she summarised. “They’re two of my best friends and I adore them.”

Among the other reveals in Swift’s podcast debut was that she and her man stand behind Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid — specifically, that they have him to thank for their nearly two-years-long romance.

Over an hour into the podcast, when Jason Kelce asked the couple “how true” it is that Reid set the couple up. Taylor was quick to respond.

“Whatever Andy Reid says, we’re gonna stand by,” the hit maker said as Travis nodded approvingly. “He says it, that’s what happened.”

“Cupid. Big Red,” added the tight end.

Moments prior, Travis joked about the implausibility of “landing” Swift as a serious girlfriend. “No way this guy landed her,” he said, imagining what fans might have said about the possibility. “No chance.”

SWIFT BROKE DOWN AFTER BUYING HER MASTERS

Swift recalled emotionally telling her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, that she owned the rights to her first six studio albums.

The singer explained she rushed to tell the Kansas City Chiefs star after her mum called her with the good news.

The pop star claimed she was overwhelmed with tears and was trying to “get [her] s--t together” and “tell Travis in a normal way.”

“I knock on the door, he’s playing video games, and I’m trying to say it in a normal way, and I’m just like, ‘Travis,’” she recounted while mimicking her tears at the time.

Swift recalled Kelce thinking there was something wrong and immediately telling his gaming pals that he had to go.

Talking to the tight end on the podcast, she said, “You just come up and I’m just like, ‘I got all my music back,’ and then just start absolutely heaving.”

Kelce recalled Swift being “dead weight,” as she added that she “dropped” and “had no power” to support herself.

MOMENT THAT LEFT TRAVIS STUNNED

Swift didn’t sugar-coat a thing while discussing her first date with Kelce that took place sometime after the Chiefs tight end attended an Eras Tour show in Kansas City in 2023.

Swift recalled not knowing anything about football — and asking Kelce “the most insane question” about playing in the Super Bowl against his brother, former Eagles centre Jason Kelce, who retired in March 2024.

“I knew he wasn’t crazy the first couple of times we talked … He’s like a human exclamation point,” Swift, 35, said. “I use so many more exclamation points now. And you aren’t judgmental that I knew nothing about the world you’re in.

“On our first date, I legitimately asked him what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl, and he looked across the line of scrimmage and saw his brother standing five feet away from him.”

Travis was speechless because that wasn’t possible, as the brothers played offensive positions and wouldn’t be on the field at the same time.

“He didn’t even look at me,” Swift said, laughing.

“I now know what an insane question that was … I thought everyone was out there at the same time … I didn’t know what a first down was … what a tight end was … I fell in love with it, I became obsessed with it.”

Kelce and Swift went public with their relationship in October 2023, when they were spotted holding hands in New York City.

SWIFT REVEALS THEME OF NEW ALBUM

Swift candidly shared the theme of The Life of a Showgirl with Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce.

The “Lover” songstress claimed her goal of the 12-track album was for it to be “so infectious” that listeners are “almost angry at it.”

“And lyrics that are just as vivid but crisp and focused and completely intentional,” she added.

She revealed that she went “all out” for her new album, and Travis Kelce couldn’t agree more.

“I was so proud of the music and so excited about this project from a creative stand point, that I was just like ‘all hands on deck, we’re going all out, this is a full send,’” the singer said about the making of her new album.

“I care about this record more than I can even overstate,” she continued.

“It’s so much fun,” Kelce added with a smile. “I understand what she’s saying. I’ve been fortunate enough to listen to every single song, so I know they’re all 12 bangers.”

“It’s a lot more upbeat,” he shared. It’s a lot more like fun, pop, excitement and I think it’s a complete 180 from a lot of the songs on (The Tortured Poet’s Department) for sure.”

Swift confirmed she created her new album while on the European leg of the Eras Tour.

“I’d do, like, three shows in a row. I’d have three days off. I’d fly to Sweden [then] go back to the tour,” Swift said.

The Grammy winner continued, “I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating.”

NEW ALBUM FEATURES SEXY ARTWORK

The Life of a Showgirl is Swift’s first album since The Tortured Poets Department, which came out April 19, 2024 and was nominated for six Grammy Awards.

Four different versions of the sparkly CD set are available, in orange, purple, silver and red, for pre-order.

She also revealed the artwork for her new album on Instagram during her appearance on New Heights.

Leaning into the showgirl theme, more artwork includes her rocking a feather headpiece (the feather being orange to follow the album’s colour scheme), and another one of her posing in a voluminous feather outfit and sequin heels.

More daring pics include her in fishnets and a dark red corset, and another shot of her confidently posing in a chainlike get-up.

“And, baby, that’s show business for you. New album The Life of a Showgirl. Out October 3,” Swift wrote, ending it with a heart emoji.

Fans will get a Sabrina Carpenter collaboration on her new album.

Carpenter will be featured on the album’s final track with the same title, “The Life of a Show Girl.”

SWIFT LOVED UP WITH KELCE ON PODCAST

Earlier a teaser for the podcast showcased the hilarious dynamic among the famous trio.

In the clip, the pop superstar, 35, lovingly looks at her boyfriend, who is flashing a big smile on his face, as his older brother introduces his girlfriend to their listeners.

Jason, 37, mistakenly starts out, however, by stating Swift is from Nashville, but then immediately corrects himself, saying, “That’s bulls – t. She is from Reading, Pennsylvania,” prompting laughs from the couple.

The former Philadelphia Eagles centre then goes on to gush over the Grammy winner’s accomplishments, calling her the “most awarded artist in history” and boasting that her last album, The Tortured Poets Department, broke records with 1.76 billion streams.

“Did it?” the Fortnight singer asks after hearing the stat. “All right.”

Continuing in the style of a WWE promo, Jason shouts, “92 per centres, are you ready for it? Making her podcast debut, the most requested guest in the history of shows, Taylor Swift!”

“That intro, Jason,” Swift responds, before joking, “Oh, my God! No, look. His soul has left his body.”

The red-faced father of four replies, “I’m cramping. I’m cramping.”

However, the You Belong With Me singer tells him, “No, that was so good. Thank you. Thank you for screaming for, like, 47 seconds for me. That was so nice. That was so sweet.”

At this point, Travis, 35, jumps in to tell his girlfriend, “Tay Tay, welcome to ‘New Heights.’”

“Thank you. Thanks for having me on my favourite podcast,” she sweetly responds.

SWIFT’S PLAYFUL JAB ON PODCAST

However, the clip then takes a cheeky turn when Swift pokes fun of the fact that not all 92 per centers, which is the name of the “New Heights” podcast’s fanbase, may be excited to see her on the show.

“As we all know, you guys have a lot of male sports fans that listen to your podcast,” she says. “I think we all know is that if there’s one thing male sports fans want to see in their spaces and on their screens, it’s more of me.”

Since Swift began dating Travis in 2023, her appearance at football games was met with mixed reviews.

While the Lover singer brought in $US1 billion of publicity to the NFL, as Swifties tried to catch a glimpse of her at games, hardcore football fans also hit back at how much she was shown on their screens.

Swift was also booed earlier this year when she cheered on Travis and his Kansas City Chiefs teammates during their Super Bowl 2025 game against the Eagles at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
