Taylor Swift fans are up in arms over several cancellations of crucial flights to Sydney from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
The flights were cancelled due to severe storms expected to hit Sydney Airport on Friday afternoon cancelled, just hours before the first of Swift’s four shows in the city.
Virgin had two flights scheduled for Brisbane departures at 4.05pm and 7.35pm which were cancelled, while Jetstar had two flights with 5pm and 7.30pm cancelled.
A further three flights have been cancelled to travel to Sydney from Brisbane Airport this afternoon, while two are expected to experience up to hour-long delays.
“It has all been quite stressful,” an anxious passenger said.
Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Stephan Tesanac said the storm in Sydney was expected to hit from mid to late afternoon.
“Anytime from 3pm it could come through and it will continue into this evening,” Mr Tesanac said.
He said it was not expected to pass until Saturday morning.
“These storms could potentially bring between 20-40mm of rainfall,” he said.
“But the main thing is the risk of damaging winds.”
Mr Tesanac said there could be wind gusts of up to 120km/h.
Fans took to social media to share their concern ahead of Taylor Swifts first concert.
“I’m going to start driving now,” one person commented on Facebook.
“Yes, was on a flight tonight and they rescheduled to Sunday, the day after the concert I’m meant to be going to,” another person said.
It comes as 13,800 Swifties are expected to travel through Brisbane Airport to see Swift in Sydney from February 22-27.
Brisbane Airport Spokesman Peter Doherty said while it was perfect flying weather in Brisbane today, the forecast for Sydney during Friday afternoon and evening is for thunderstorms, possibly severe.
“There is the potential for this to impact flights and travellers should stay alert for any advice from their airline,” he said.
Meanwhile, Gold Coast Airport also has three flights to Sydney cancelled, all of which have been rescheduled to Saturday morning.
The three flights cancelled were scheduled for departures at 2.15pm, 2.25pm and 7.20pm.
Other Punters who had earlier flights shared their relief in light of the cancellations.
