Sylvia Jeffreys on her Logies ‘fangirl’ moments, and why husband Pete is expecting a mention in the opening monologue

SYLVIA Jeffreys promises to bring the bling for the pre-show presenting duties on the Logies red carpet, but despite the glamour, she’ll still allow herself a fangirl moment or two.

MOVING the Logies to the Gold Coast may add a few more variables to television’s night of nights, but red carpet co-host Sylvia Jeffreys promises one thing: “You can expect plenty of sequins, I can guarantee that.”

Sharing the pre-show presenting duties with fellow Queenslanders and noted Channel 9 fashionistas, Leila McKinnon and Sonia Kruger, the Today newsreader vows the stylish trio will lead by example “in our natural habitat.”

“You wouldn’t find three prouder Queenslanders … we’re just all thrilled to be hosting,” Jeffreys tells TV Guide.

The statuesque TV star has turned to her bridal couturier and friend, Rebecca Vallance to create her Logies gown again this year, confirming she will definitely bring the bling.

Hoping to keep a lower profile will be Jeffrey’s husband and Weekend Today co-host Peter Stefanovic, whose infamous Uber rant with brother Karl, is likely to be fodder for comic Dave Hughes’ much-anticipated opening monologue.

The industry roast famously targets some of the industry’s biggest own goals of the year, with Jeffreys’ admitting the Uber scandal is ripe for skewering.

“It’s safe to say they are always bracing [for criticism],” she says, laughing.

“They won’t relax until Dave’s done his opener, but it’s all friendly fire.”

The good-natured atmosphere at the prize night is what she loves most about the annual event — especially the chance to meet some of her TV crushes.

“It’s always a ‘pinch me’ experience,” she explains. “I remember my first red carpet, Patti Newton came up to me and said, ‘Hi Sylvia, you’re doing a great job’ and I thought, ‘in what parallel universe does Patti Newton even know who I am?’ She’s this industry legend and just has the most beautiful presence about her.”

Sharing a lift with actor Asher Keddie also turned Jeffreys into a fan girl.

“We hadn’t yet met, but she said, ‘Hi, Sylvia’ and I thought ‘oh my god, I’m sharing a life with Nina [Keddie’s character in Offspring]. I was so excited, that was a real highlight because I’ve admired her for so long.”

When asked to share secrets from the network after parties, Jeffreys’ claims her signature move on the dancefloor is the “smoke bomb” or “ghosting” — leaving the party without anyone noticing.

“I am yet to fully experience an after-party,” she says. “I mean, I’ve popped in but I never last more than 45 minutes, because I’m watching the clock and have to be up at 3.30am. Some people are able to push through but I’m not one of them, I need my sleep.”
