Stephanie Rice reveals break-up and new beginnings in Dubai

An Aussie sports star has posted an emotion-charged video, opening up about her split from her boyfriend.

Olympic swimming champion Stephanie Rice has revealed her split from boyfriend Dane Christison in a candid ‘life update’ video posted to her Instagram account.

In the emotional video, Rice admitted she had not kept her followers updated about her new life in Dubai due to the turmoil of a “really challenging relationship”.

“When I moved, I really wanted to share a lot more of the journey with you guys in real time. I just was going through the deepest healing. I was in a really challenging relationship at the time, when we broke up, I felt the peace of God was upon me. I felt like I felt free. I felt happy,” she shared.

Rice announced her move to Dubai in December 2022, describing it as a fresh start. However, the announcement video received backlash, with some netizens accusing the Olympic gold medallist of being “out of touch” after she posted a tearful video from a first-class flight.

In January, Rice revealed she was in a new relationship with Christison, whom she met through a church connection. She shared snippets of their life together, including videos of the couple embracing and on holiday.

That same month, she also posted a series of videos detailing her swift transition to born-again Christianity, which left many fans puzzled and concerned.

In her recent Instagram post, Rice promised to be more consistent with updates about her new life in Dubai.

“For the first time, I realised the heaviness that I was carrying. I just felt like it all lifted off me, and I feel like I’m in this amazing place now where I feel so happy, so content,” she said.

Rice expressed gratitude to God for providing clarity after her break-up.

“God is so good. I’m seeing so many fruits of the amazing things God has given me, and I want to be able to share a lot more of what’s kind of happened over the past six months. Now that I have a lot more clarity, a lot more peace, and a lot more happiness.”
