In a move that further cements her integration into the renowned Irwin family, Rorie Buckey, girlfriend of Robert Irwin, has announced she will be relocating to Queensland and joining the Australia Zoo team, stirring up speculation about the couple’s future.
This announcement comes just five months after the couple went public with their relationship, signalling a deepening of ties between Buckey and the Irwin family’s legacy in wildlife conservation.
Rorie Buckey, 19, currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy at Curtin University in Perth, shared that she has taken a significant step in her career through an Instagram post on Tuesday night.
The post featured Buckey in the iconic Australia Zoo uniform, while taking notes, as well as a close-up photo of a crocodile.
She said she was honoured to be involved in groundbreaking crocodile research in North Queensland, a project in collaboration with the University of Queensland and Australia Zoo. She said this research aims to conserve the crucial species and their habitats, reflecting Australia Zoo’s commitment to wildlife conservation.
The announcement was met with a wave of support from her followers, many of whom are speculating about an impending engagement between Buckey and Irwin.
“Engagement incoming in T-minus 3 … 2 … 1 …” one fan wrote.
“A true Irwin already!,” another person said.
Engagement rumours had already been circulating, with reports last month suggesting that Robert Irwin is considering proposing to Buckey, possibly while filming the upcoming season of I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! in Africa.
Chandler Powell, Bindi Irwin’s husband, joined the Australia Zoo team in 2015, shortly after their relationship went public. The couple were engaged within four years of the move.
