Radio star Robin Bailey spills on how romantic getaway turned chaotic

Brisbane radio host Robin Bailey has revealed how her dreamy New Caledonia trip with boyfriend of just three months turned into an emotional rollercoaster.

Brisbane’s popular radio host Robin Bailey has shared intimate details of her first international holiday with her new, mysterious boyfriend, affectionately dubbed Waffles.

Bailey and her Belgian beau ventured to New Caledonia earlier this month, marking a significant milestone just three months into their relationship.

“It was extraordinary and I can’t rave enough about New Caledonia and my new man – it was perfect” she told her co-host Kip Wightman on KIIS 97.3.

“It’s propelled our relationship from like three months to about like a year in”.

The trip not only brought them closer but also allowed Waffles to showcase his linguistic prowess, dealing with everything in French, which Bailey found incredibly attractive.

“Do you know how sexy it is when the bloke you’re with is taking care of everything, in French?” she added.

However, the post-vacation glow was not without its challenges.

“We came back like so besotted, and just in love and just feeling all the feels, but then something happened. And I became ‘me’,” she revealed.

Bailey admitted to attempting to sabotage the relationship upon their return, during a vulnerable time when she underwent a gynaecological operation.

“The second week of our holidays, I had to have a gynaecological operation, before I had kids, I had endometriosis and so it’s been something that I’ve had to monitor for a long time,” she said.

Feeling the effects of anaesthetic and not being able to partake in activities such as exercise, Bailey found her “self-sabotaging” her relationship.

“Anaesthetic makes you feel like a waterlogged whale. And I haven’t been feeling great – so of course, I spent a huge amount of time trying to convince him that I was not the person that should be in his life.

“I may or may not have tried to break up – I might have been a little agitated.”

Yet, through all the turmoil Waffles, displaying remarkable patience and care, stayed by Bailey’s side throughout her ordeal.

“He drove down after the operation and came and took care of me. And that made me feel even worse, because I was like, ‘I don’t deserve this’,” she shared, highlighting the emotional rollercoaster that followed their picturesque holiday.

Bailey also touched on the challenges of juggling personal struggles, including moving her mother out of the family home in Sydney and house renovations, all while managing her health issues.

Yet, in the end, love prevailed.

“It wasn’t great for about 24 hours, and then I got over myself and he was just divine as he is. And yeah, it’s all back on. He’s the sweetest,” she said.

While Bailey has kept Waffles’ true identity under wraps, she has shared a few details on-air about her mystery man, including the fact that he is Belgian, resides on the Sunshine Coast, rides a Harley Davidson and is ex-military.
