Popular radio host Robin Bailey has left listeners in shock this morning after breaking down in tears live on air during the Terry, Robin and Kip breakfast show.

The epic meltdown was triggered by the looming ‘Robin Can’t Cook’ kitchen segment, an upcoming cooking competition where Bailey, a self-professed bad cook’, is set to prepare a three-course lunch this coming Thursday, June 8, at the Normanby Hotel.

Celebrity chef Matt Preston was invited into the studio to bolster Bailey’s spirits ahead of the challenge, however, upon Preston’s arrival and his words of comfort, Bailey began sobbing uncontrollably.

“I can’t do it, you’ve seen me meltdown in my own kitchen, I can’t do it,” Bailey confessed to Preston on air.

This was accompanied by her admission that she felt she lacked the support from her team, adding fuel to allegations of bullying. “No, I don’t (have support), everyone wants me to fail mate,” she added.

Preston tried to reassure the distraught radio host, saying: “Robin, you need to believe that you can do it. And really, you have got support. That isn’t true at all. But honestly, Robin, genuinely believe you can do it. You just got to have some faith in yourself.”

Yet, Bailey was clearly distressed at the thought of failing in front of her peers, her children, and listeners, and stormed out of the studio, leaving the show for 20 minutes to recompose herself.

When Bailey returned to the studio, her co-host Kip Wightman admitted feeling hurt by her comment of having no support.

“The trigger was when you said to Matt that everyone wants you to fail. And that bothered me,” he confessed.

“There’s two parts to our friendship, one is that I want to have fun on the radio with you, when things fail, so if we have this lunch and you burn the pizza, it’s going to be fun.

“It’s funny, but I don’t want you to fall. I actually believe in you.”

In the aftermath of the meltdown, Bailey took responsibility for her raw emotional outburst and linked it back to her painful personal life, saying, “For God’s sake. I’ve been through two deaths and two husbands and the thing that’s bringing me to my knees is cooking.”

This comes in light of Bailey losing her second husband, Sean Pickwell, to liver cancer in September 2019, five years after the father of her three sons, Tony Smart, took his own life.

In an attempt to make sense of the situation, Bailey revealed, “I think maybe I’ve just projected all of my other sh*t right into this, into just this moment of just going ‘I can’t do it’.”

Despite the emotional outburst, Bailey showed resilience, insisting she would not give up on the challenge. “I don’t give up right, so I need to think about across the weekend, what I’m gonna do with that,” she said. “And I don’t think failing is an option and not turning up is an option, I just got to work out how.”
