4BC Weekend host Peter Fegan has been officially announced as the new voice of the station’s breakfast show, following the departure of long-time hosts Laurel Edwards, Gary Clare, and Mark Hine.
The internal announcement, sent to staff on Thursday afternoon, confirmed that Fegan would take over the coveted breakfast slot solo from September 30 until the end of the year.
“From Monday, September 30, Peter Fegan will look after the Breakfast timeslot until the end of the year – before we wrap up the 2024 Survey Period on Friday, December 13,” the email read.
This programming shake-up comes after 4BC revealed last week that it was heading in a new direction for its breakfast line-up. Edwards, Clare, and Hine will bid farewell to listeners on September 27, after years of helming one of Brisbane’s most popular morning shows.
Fegan, who currently hosts 4BC’s local Weekend program, was reportedly telling insiders that he had already secured the role, despite no formal announcements being made at the time.
His confidence now seems well-placed as he prepares to step into the high-profile position.
In addition to Fegan’s appointment, the internal memo also confirmed that Gary Hardgrave would continue in the Drive timeslot, a role left vacant by Peter Gleeson’s recent departure to become CEO of Queensland’s $85 million Q Greyhound Complex earlier this month.
The changes will see Fegan lead the breakfast program until the end of the year, with the 2024 Survey Period wrapping up on December 13.
The coming week will focus on celebrating the contributions of Edwards, Clare, and Hine, with staff and listeners preparing for an emotional send-off for the beloved trio.
