One of Queensland’s most prominent couples has split.
Courtney Thorpe has confirmed the end of her two-year marriage to Gold Coast Titans prop Jarrod Wallace in what has been the “biggest heartbreak” of her life.
The presenter and former Miss World Australia separated from Wallace last September before attempting to reconcile the relationship for the sake of their daughter Kennedy, two, as well as Wallace’s two daughters from a previous relationship.
They were unable to save their marriage and Thorpe confirmed the news publicly as she returned to work this week, joining Hot Tomato radio station on the Gold Coast.
“Our marriage ended in September. I did fight to save it for a few months after that but it has been completely over for a while now,” Thorpe said. “For the sake of the three girls I won’t ever go into all the nitty gritty details publicly but there are certain parts I will talk about further in my own way shortly.
“For now, I am just focusing on being the best mother for my daughter as my top priority, I am studying full time, have my very own podcast coming out soon and I have started working again, all of which I am so excited about.
“The old Courtney is coming back. It was the biggest heartbreak of my life, but I’m feeling better and better every day and excited for what’s ahead for my little girl and I.”
Wallace, a former Queensland State of Origin representative, and Thorpe began dating in 2017 and tied the knot two years later, with Thorpe putting aside her presenting career in Brisbane at the time to relocate to the Gold Coast, becoming a stepmother to Wallace’s daughters, Lara and Peyton.
In August 2019 the couple’s daughter, Kennedy, was born six weeks premature with no amniotic fluid left to survive in, in a traumatic birth during which doctors told Thorpe could have had fatal consequences for both her and her baby.
Having been placed into isolation after the birth to mitigate the risk of infection and with the global pandemic breaking out in early 2020, Thorpe was subsequently diagnosed with post-partum depression, which she has since overcome.
Now able to return to work as a single mother, she began a new job at Hot Tomato on Thursday and has been signed to host her own podcast series in the coming months.
Meanwhile Wallace is out of contract with the Gold Coast Titans at the end of 2022.
