Nine reporter Lily Greer named new US Correspondent at just 28
After a national selection process, 28-year-old Brisbane reporter Lily Greer has been chosen as Nine’s next US correspondent.
Brisbane reporter Lily Greer has been named Nine’s next US Correspondent, securing one of the network’s most coveted foreign postings at just 28.
The appointment was revealed in an internal email circulated to Nine staff on Thursday afternoon, confirming Greer will relocate to Los Angeles in mid-2026 following a competitive national selection process.
The announcement caps a big week for the reporter, who will make her debut reading the 6pm news this weekend while the network’s regular presenters take summer leave.
Greer, who joined 9News Queensland in 2018, will cover major global events during her stint, including the lead-up to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
In an internal email sent to staff, Nine Queensland news director Brendan Hockings said the appointment was “a credit to her”, noting Greer’s strong work ethic and commitment to the newsroom.
“Lily works incredibly hard preparing her stories and is fully committed day in, day out,” he said.
“Her drive and love for what we do will serve her very well in our LA bureau as she covers the world’s biggest events.”
Greer will be replacing current US correspondent Jonathan Kearsley who is due to come back to Australia.
Greer said the US posting fulfilled a lifelong dream.
“My ultimate dream in this industry has always been two-pronged, to work at the network my family turned to each night at 6pm, and to work as a foreign correspondent,” she said.
“It is my ultimate dream come true and I owe so much to my Nine News colleagues who have so generously offered me advice and helped me grow over the years.”
“I couldn’t be more excited to join such a trusted and terrific team.”
She said stepping into the 6pm chair for the first time would be another milestone.
“To read the 6pm news over summer is the greatest Christmas present I could ever have imagined,” she said.
“To fill in for her [Melissa], Joel and my other amazing colleagues on the 6pm desk will be the ultimate pinch-me moment.”
Greer’s promotion follows fellow Queensland reporter Josh Bavas’ recent appointment as Nine’s Europe Correspondent in London, replacing Jess Millward — whose husband, Joel Dry, is now the network’s 6pm co-presenter alongside Melissa Downes.
Millward is returning home to Brisbane this week after two years abroad, during which she reported on major breaking events across the UK and Europe, including royal coverage and the death of Pope Francis.
With Dry now settled into his new role on the 6pm desk and their son, Sullivan, set to start kindy next year, the family will reunite in Queensland as Millward wraps up her posting.
