‘Nice to be home’: Today show favourite Brooke Boney returns
The popular presenter joined hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo to reflect on her year studying abroad and what she plans on doing next.
After more than a year of studying abroad away from the spotlight of breakfast TV, Today reporter Brooke Boney has returned to the program.
In a brief guest stint on the show, the former news and entertainment reporter, 38, pulled up a stool for a nostalgic chat with hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo, where she reflected on her life as a student at the prestigious Oxford University.
“It’s nice to be home! I just had the best time, it was so different from what I expected, but amazing in all the best ways,” the proud Gamilaroi woman shared.

During her appearance, Brooke confessed to loving subjects she didn’t expect while studying her Masters of Public Policy, and was even granted incredible marks for some.
“My strongest subjects were like economics and law and actually, I got a distinction for my research which is the highest possible mark,” she gushed.
Her success in her studies meant the former TV star was able to silence any of her doubters who claimed she managed to gain entry into the reputable university because of her public image.
“You do have those doubts when you go in to do something new, you’ve never sort of experienced it before, I hadn’t studied for like 20 years... and all of those comments about ‘oh did you get in on merit?’ or ‘surely there’s some sort of secret pathway for Today show hosts to go to Oxford...’” she reflected.
When posed with a question by Karl about possibly returning to the Nine Network, Brooke didn’t mince her words. It was a hard “No.”
“Are you kidding? Look how happy I am! I don’t have to wake up at a quarter past three. Look at me,” she laughed.
Instead, Boney has her eyes set on further studies.
“I think I want to do a PhD... but I’ll try and do it from Australia. I love being at home and I love all of you.”
Brooke’s brief return to the program comes just a week after she graduated from the grand Oxford halls with friends she didn’t ever expect to make.
“I’m graduating today with my classmates from @blavatnikschool and @stantonyscollege in a ceremony that’s barely changed since 1669. If you’d told the girl leaving Muswellbrook High with a half-finished HSC that she’d end up here, she wouldn’t have believed you for a second,” she gushed on Instagram while sharing pictures from her graduation.
“This year has stretched me, humbled me and introduced me to friends I’ll love for the rest of my life. I’ve been tested in ways I didn’t see coming and found parts of myself I didn’t know were there.
“Standing here I keep thinking about how Oxford has survived almost a thousand years of change and turbulence throughout history, holding tight to the idea that learning matters above everything else. And yet that timeline is tiny next to my Gamilaroi heritage… tens of thousands of years of dancing, teaching, caring, and surviving on Country.
“To move between those worlds and to be a link in both is something I don’t take for granted. Today I just feel grateful. Truly, I might be the luckiest girl in the world.”
