Ne-Yo’s Champagne & Roses Tour brought the heat to Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Wednesday night, but it wasn’t just his R&B hits that had the audience talking.
A daring onstage dance competition left concertgoers in shock, with one female fan taking things to an unexpected extreme, dropping her pants while grinding against the Grammy Award-winning singer.
The concert, packed with hits like “Sexy Love” and “Miss Independent,” saw Ne-Yo gliding across the stage in his signature smooth style.
Dressed in a leopard print suit and his iconic tilted hat, he wowed fans with a mix of his classic tunes and new material.
But midway through the performance, the show took a wild turn.
During the interval, Ne-Yo’s hype man scoured the audience, searching for three confident women to join the singer on stage for a once-in-a-lifetime dance-off.
While this fan-involvement segment, known as the push-back challenge, is a staple of Ne-Yo’s shows across the globe, Brisbane’s contestants were determined to make their mark, leaving the crowd stunned.
The three women took turns showing off their best moves, mostly twerking, hoping to impress their celebrity crush.
However, it was contestant number two from Mount Isa who left the singer and over 10,000 attendees in shock, stripping down to reveal a black G-string as she grinded on Ne-Yo.
“Did contestant number two really drop her pants?” Ne-Yo asked, visibly shocked by the bold move.
The crowd erupted in disbelief as one audience member could be heard asking, “Did we all just see that?”
The scene was so unexpected that even the singer laughed it off, later adding, “Ladies and gentlemen, I was sexually assaulted tonight — and I liked it.”
Despite her best efforts, it was contestant number three, sporting pink sequin booty shorts, who won the loudest cheers of the night for her enthusiastic twerking, prompting Ne-Yo to joke, “I think I’m now pregnant.”
While the unscripted moment certainly left its mark on the night, it didn’t overshadow Ne-Yo’s captivating performance.
He effortlessly moved from seductive R&B jams like “She Knows” to emotional ballads such as “So Sick,” leading the audience through a whirlwind of nostalgia and raw passion.
For his encore, Ne-Yo emerged in a dazzling silver jacket to deliver his closing hits, including the techno-infused “Let Me Love You,” as well as fan-favourites “Time Of Our Lives” and “Give Me Everything”, with a pyrotechnic finale that brought the crowd to its feet.
Ne-Yo is set to wrap up his Champagne & Roses tour in Sydney on Thursday night before heading to New Zealand.
