New COVID-safe music festival Remix Hotel to launch in Brisbane in October

The dancefloor is back in Brisbane with a twist, with the announcement of a new COVID-safe music festival to be held inside a luxe inner-city hotel. Here’s how it will work.

Coronavirus: Here's what to do while you’re bored in isolation

A new COVID-safe music festival will allow Brisbane partygoers to stream exclusive DJ sets into their hotel rooms.

The festival, called Remix Hotel, is a response to the global pandemic, which has decimated the music festival circuit because of the strict restrictions on crowd numbers and seating requirements.

It will see groups of two book a hotel room at Brisbane venue Ovolo The Valley from October 9 to 11 and stream DJ sets from 16 artists including headliner Groove Armada.

Six people will be allowed in each hotel room during set times.

The goal was to give ticketholders a safe opportunity to dance, which is currently barred from Brisbane nightclubs due to the pandemic.

“Remix Hotel has been a vision ever since our first lockdown back in March,” said XR Events’ Michael Watt.

“We’re so proud to be able to have some of the biggest names in clubland contributing to our event. Remix Hotel is a new concept that works within COVID-19 guidelines, it’s an entire weekend lifestyle experience like nothing that’s ever been done before.”

“We’ve always been a place of wonder, where you can expect the unexpected. Working with XR Events to create this innovative, industry-leading experience shows Ovolo’s love of music and art with complete assurance that our guests are in safe, thoroughly washed hands,” said Stephen Howard, Ovolo Group’s marketing director.

Alongside English duo Groove Armada, other international contributors are Marshall Jefferson and Jason Bye, while local artists include Rachel May, Groove Terminator and Mark Jame.
