Nation baffled by Travis Kelce double

Travis Kelce has left many scratching their heads after he was filmed emerging from a plane at Sydney Airport with a friend on Thursday.

Taylor Swift's boyfriend Travis Kelce touches down in Sydney

The entire nation held its breath as Travis Kelce’s private jet touched down at Sydney Airport on Thursday morning ahead of his reunion with girlfriend Taylor Swift.

The aircraft’s journey was the number one most tracked flight worldwide during its descent, with close to 10,000 people watching its journey online.

Every major Australian network – including ABC, Nine, Ten and Seven – pivoted to live helicopter vision as the Bombardier Global 6000 opened its doors just after 9.15am.

The first man to step out kept his head down and was dressed in a matching navy outfit complete with Nike shoes, a simple backpack and a navy cap.

The man that followed wore a flashy striped tracksuit and sweatshirt combination with a white cap slid on backwards and a duffel bag in one hand.

“No, that looks like Travis, the second one,” insisted another presenter.

“I’m feeling even more competent now that this is Travis Kelce, his backwards cap and he’s sporting athleisure, I can say we are onto the right person here.”

There was just one problem – the Today show, and dozens of media publications across the globe – had the wrong man.

Kelce was travelling with his close friend, NFL star Ross Travis, who took to Instagram before boarding the flight to share a fleeting clip of his outfit.

In the two-second clip, Ross Travis’ distinctive striped tracksuits can be seen. His plain white shoes also appear to be missing the black Nike logo worn by Travis Kelce.

Social media erupted as eagle-eyed viewers hit back at suggestions that Travis Kelce was joined by his brother.

The pair weren’t seen on the tarmac for long, with a silver Mercedes-Benz quickly whisking them away.

Page Six had earlier reported the Super Bowl champ boarded the private jet on Tuesday (US time) to make the Pacific slog to Australia to attend Swift’s four Sydney shows between Friday and Monday.

It was a busy Tuesday for the man who helped the Kansas City Chiefs to a dramatic Super Bowl victory on February 11 in Las Vegas.

He was first spotted back in Las Vegas playing golf at the Wynn Las Vegas casino resort. Entertainment website TMZ then reported that Kelce was in Los Angeles on Tuesday night where he had dinner at fancy restaurant Nobu in Malibu.

At 9pm the same evening, he flew to Honolulu in Hawaii for a pit stop. Then it was back in the air and headed to Australia.

Indeed, the jet Swift has been using in Australia flew to Honolulu on Tuesday fuelling speculation it was bound for the island city to pick Kelce up.

However, that jet appears to have then travelled to Seoul in South Korea.

The one that landed in Sydney Thursday morning looked slightly different to the one Swift had been using in Australia.

The NFL star hinted at visiting the superstar in Australia in his podcast New Heights last week, saying he would “venture to an island real soon”.

He also said he would not be appearing on this week’s episode alongside his brother Jason Kelce, leading fans to speculate that he would be in Australia and unable to record the show.

Speaking live on the Today show on Tuesday morning, Kelce’s dad Ed Kelce said he heard the rumours his son was going to travel south to visit Swift on her Australian tour.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he does,” he told the morning show hosts. Kelce last went overseas to see Swift perform in November when he accompanied her on the Argentina leg of her mammoth tour.

The Cruel Summer singer arrived in Sydney on Monday, after finishing her Melbourne leg of her tour.

She was spotted getting on the plane wearing Kelce’s Chiefs Super Bowl Champions hat, as well as a red top and shorts.

She arrived in Sydney just before 1.30pm, after only a roughly 20-minute delay. The delay was caused by thunderstorms and lighting strikes in the area. Multiple other domestic flights were delayed.

Swift’s jet pulled into a hangar in the airport, so that she could leave the plane to privately go to her hotel in the city.

After landing, she joined a convoy of cars where she is believed to have been taken to a penthouse at the Crown casino in Barangaroo, in Sydney’s CBD.

However, there are also rumours she’s staying at a private residence in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
