‘Gutted’: Rockers cancel Aussie tour days out

This beloved UK rock band were days away from boarding a flight for their biggest Aussie tour yet – now they’ve had to axe the whole thing.

A UK rock band have been forced to cancel what was going to be their biggest Australian tour to date, just days before it was due to get underway.

Welsh rockers Stereophonics, who have released 13 albums since debuting in 1997, announced on social media this week that they have been forced to cancel a string of upcoming shows due to singer Kelly Jones suffering an unusual injury.

“I am gutted, saddened and disappointed to inform you all, that due to a displaced jaw joint (not caused by singing folks – just one of life’s tense dizzying mysteries!) the upcoming Australia and Dubai shows are cancelled,” Jones wrote on the band’s Instagram page.

He revealed that flying long distance “is not medically advised” with the ailment.

“I have cancelled no more than 4 shows in 30 years and I hope you can trust this decision was not taken lightly,” he said.

Jones said that while the band’s planned December UK tour will proceed as scheduled, “physio rehabilitation and healing is the priority right now.”

The band’s cancelled Australian tour would’ve seen them play their biggest venues yet, starting at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on October 17 before dates in Brisbane, Melbourne and Fremantle.

The band’s Australian tour organiser Live Nation said in a statement that the organisation “shares the deep disappointment at this news and sincerely regrets any inconvenience this cancellation may cause to ticket holders.”

Live Nation advised that refunds for ticketholders will be processed automatically.
