It’s a tough week to be an Aussie Swiftie.

Taylor Swift, 33, is set to play three shows at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on February 16, 17 and 18 next year, before moving to Sydney’s Accor Stadium for a four-show run on the 23rd, 24th, 25th and finishing up on the 26th.

With no dates scheduled for other capital cities, including Perth and Adelaide, it’s expected many Aussies will travel for the event – which has further raised the stakes for today’s general sales release.

When tickets went on sale in November last year for the US leg – marking Swift’s first tour in five years – Ticketmaster experienced “unprecedented demand” as up to 14 million Americans attempted to buy pre-sale tickets – enough to fill 900 stadiums – with only 1.5 million up for grabs.

Here in Australia, the first ticket presale for the Australian dates, limited to American Express customers willing to pay top dollar for the two priciest VIP packages, crashed the Amex site for more than an hour on Monday. That presale sold out swiftly (no pun intended).

During Wednesday’s Frontier Touring presale event, it was reported around four million fans were fighting it out for tickets to the shows.

General ticket sales for remaining spots at the seven Australian shows will begin today on Ticketek.

The Sydney tickets will be available from 10am local time, with Melbourne on sale from 2pm.

Ticketek has shared tips on how fans can give themselves their best chance at securing entry.

“Double check your Ticketek account and payment details are up to date. Have your login details handy as you’ll need them to complete your purchase,” Ticketek began in a statement.

“Gather your fellow fans and plan your purchase by agreeing on the performance date, ticket price category and any packages you want to purchase.”

As far as the day of the sale, Ticketek advises visiting the page “at least 15 minutes prior to tickets going on sale”.

“Follow the designated link for your desired city to be taken to the Ticketek Lounge.

“Please don’t leave the Lounge page or refresh your browser. The page will refresh itself frequently to let more fans through to purchase. Once you’re in the Lounge, sit tight and wait to be let through to the event page.

“Once you’re through, keep an eye on the timer and complete your purchase within the time frame.”

The ‘Eras’ stadium tour is on track to become the highest grossing tour of all time, predicted to rake in $US591 million for the US leg alone.

Swift’s popularity is one thing, but the sheer pandemonium surrounding ‘Eras’ lies largely with the monster production she’s put together, with a 44-song strong setlist spanning well over three hours. That’s about twice the length of your average pop stadium show, which usually come it at around 20 songs and under two hours.

What also makes it such an impressive tour offering is it encompasses Swift’s vast body of work from her entire career, with the singer performing many of her hit songs live for the first time from her latest four albums – Lover, folklore, evermore and Midnights.

The show is split into 10, non-chronological ‘eras’ for each of her albums, kicking off with Lover (she performs six songs from this album), before moving onto Fearless (three songs), evermore (five songs), reputation (four songs), Speak Now (one song), Red (four songs, including the 10 minute version of All Too Well), folklore (seven songs), 1989 (five songs), Taylor Swift (one song) and wrapping with seven songs from Midnights.

The multi-Grammy winner’s set is also peppered with dozens of costume changes to fit the aesthetic of her respective ‘eras’, with reputation considered her more edgy phase, while folklore represents bohemian whimsy.

See you guys in the Ticketek waiting lounge.
