Exclusive: The Veronicas join the great Australian pop exodus to America to relaunch their global career after signing with American pop punk powerhouse Big Noise.

Jess and Lisa Origliasso parted ways with Sony Music earlier this year after their seven-year contract ran its course.

The new deal came out of a writing session with legendary punk producer John Feldmann and Blink 182’s Travis Barker in Los Angeles in July.

The Veronicas and Feldmann go way back to their 2007 record Hook Me Up. The American producer has also been one of 5 Seconds of Summer’s go-to collaborators throughout their career after Jess introduced him to the young Australian rockers.

“John always has us in to do sessions whenever we are back in LA and when we were there last time working on some songs he said ‘You should release this on my label, we want the new Veronicas stuff,” Jess said.

“The next day in Malibu we were signing a deal. He got Travis in to play; is it even an emo record if Travis Barker isn’t on it? He is so inspiring and just the sweetest soul.”

The twins based their career in Australia for much of the past six years as they cared for their mother Colleen after she was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy. She died in September last year.

Both sisters have American partners; Lisa is married to actor Logan Hoffman and Jess recently became engaged to her girlfriend Alex Smith.

Now, 18 years after they signed their first record deal with Warner Music in America, they are refocusing their career out of the US.

They have already been booked for a major US festival, the inaugural When We Were Young event in Las Vegas next October which stars Green Day, Blink 182, The Offspring, 30 Seconds To Mars, Good Charlotte and 5 Seconds of Summer.

The festival underscores the global revival of the punk pop heyday of the 1990s and 2000s.

“The US is where we started it all and it’s always been a major focus for us,” Jess said.

“We are going to sign management over there as well and we feel the future for the Veronicas is over there.

“We’re leaving Australia unfortunately, which is sad, but, but we’re really excited to be able to really connect with all of our fans more on the international scale.”

The Veronicas have enjoyed a renaissance on festival stages in Australia in recent years and playing huge gigs like the State of Origin matches, as a younger generation rediscovered their early hits including Untouched and 4ever.

But as the Australian tour market becomes overcrowded and opportunities beckon overseas after the two-year shutdown of gigs, more local artists are joining the exodus to reignite their careers in America.

Among those already mostly based in the US are global stars Rufus Du Sol, Dean Lewis, Flume, Tame Impala, 5SOS and Alison Wonderland while pop phenomenon Tones and I is in-demand for big festival shows there next year.

The Veronicas plan to begin releasing new music on Big Noise in early 2023.
